105.3 the FAN - we're focusing on the wrong quote from Jerry Jones

I don’t think that statement is any more definitive than the other one. He could restructure a few contracts and get the same caliber of players as usual and say he borrowed from the future.

LOL......the gas lighting aways begins with Jerry after the season is over and dies down just a little by the season opener. We here the same crap from him every year, just worded differently. Yawn...........
Actually, no. This isn't the same thing we hear from him every year. That's why so many are saying this year has a chance to be different.

I thought this year was going to be different with Jethro?
Jerry might as well say, “Forget what I said the last 30 years and believe and buy into what I’m saying now. It’s different. Believe what I say NOW.”

The absolute best quote coming from Jerry would be complete silence. How about for once just letting your actions do the talking.

Get you some of that nerd gear, hurry only a limited supply of the nerd gear is left.

And they are wrong, because one thing isn't different - Jerry is still the GM.

It’s amazing we continue to expect something different from Jethro.

And we continue slurping it up. We are Cowboys junkies and he’s our pusher. We aren’t able to just say no.

Interesting conversation. More talk about Jerry making moves.

The quote also illustrates the central problem with Jerry's approach to the cap. It is not "his future" he is borrowing from. It is not even his money. The cap dollars are the players money. He has to spend that money on player contracts. He acts like its coming out of his pocket.

Excellent point AC. And the league requires a minimum spent every year.

At this point the relationship many Cowboys fans have with the Jones family is like an alcoholic spouse scenario. The wife keeps hoping the husband will change and stop drinking. He promises in a new way every year for thirty straight years. He won’t.

The biggest take away for me after years (decades) of Jerry is that he really seems to be accepting that his time is running out and fast.
Everything else he's doing or allowing to be done is him desperate to win another superbowl before that time comes.
He looks bad
This is the sane takeaway, but you can't get people with an agenda to listen.

Jerry is ancient and almost certainly won't be here to see the repercussions of bad cap moves anyway. Any cap restraint has been Stephen holding Jerry in check expecting to take over at some point and wanting a fresh start with clear cap to do so. If the Cowboys do win a Super Bowl Jerry will be balling like a 3-year-old child.

People mistake incompetence for lack of concern or desire.

Actually, if he came out and said something like "Over the past 30 years, I've made the same mistakes over and over. This year I'm going to be trying something new and actually listening to guys willing to tell me something I don't like and will be making changes. If that doesn't work and we end up the same, I will be stepping down as GM at the end of the season" then I'd actually give him the benefit of the doubt because it would be so wildly different from who he is and what he does. But I'd be watching him like a hawk.

I assumed is Jerry saying “my future” he was aligning himself with the team but that being said that money does come out of his pocket. When a player signs a huge contract all the money the player will be owed has to be put in an escrow account. A talking point that got traction a couple years ago was that the Jones’ were operating the team like just another business and trying to maximize profit by spending right at the salary floor and never spending big in free agency. That way instead of having their money tied up in an escrow account they can invest it. Also would line up with why they will trade for big contracts because those dont need any money in escrow.
