105.3 the Fan: What if we could get a 1st for Pickens?

I would like to see Pickens get extended, however if he really wants to wait until the offseason to start any sort of negotiations and someone offers you a #1 pick I wouldn't say no. I'd much rather cash out high on Pickens than get into a long contract battle with him where we either tie up our cap space all offseason into a franchise tag or lose him altogether for a comp pick.
I dont think he would go for a 1st. Considering his contract situation we dont have a ton of leverage if we did want to deal him. I do think we could get a 2nd

The money is there to resign him. They are rolling over 30m and have a good chunk that can come off the books next seasons. Diggs deal. Steele. We will probably replace Steele with a 7th rounder in Nate Thomas who has 2 years left of a rookie contract. Our OL as a whole will actually be very cheap for the next 3 years
I don’t question the money I question the common sense of the front office.

I would rather keep pickings he's 2 years younger than CD bigger overall guy makes better contested catches.

I think right at this moment we could get more trade value for CD maybe a first and a second or two first.

CD was out and Pickens proved that he could carry the load.

we have picks now, Pickens has shown he isnt a gamble, looks like a legit #1 WR... you would rather gamble on a rookie?
Some of our fans want to trade the entire team away for draft picks because they trust Jerry to make draft picks, amazing how they can think that.

Doesn’t matter. Resign him anyway.

Why does half this fanbase seemingly want to trade away all our talent in order to give Jerry freaking Jones a bunch of draft picks?

Because you think he’s going to suddenly be able to build a Super Bowl caliber roster?

If we drafted a great player with the 1st we get for Pickens in this hypothetical scenario, y’all would just talk about how we need to trade that guy for picks too.
I get your point, but we still as fans have to theorize a way out of the problem no matter how Sisyphean it is to do so. It's either that or give up NFL football since most of us are not simply going to pick a new team.

Im here plus GP stayed engaged yesterday, he looks like he has some fight in him..CD has shown some quit when things go bad.

I’m not gonna go as far as to say the Cowboys can’t draft,,,,but I will say I do not understand the infatuation with the uncertainty of a draft pick over a legit stud in Pickens. Stupidity to me.

There is about a $70m cap hit that makes trading Lamb pretty much a non conversation.

You are not getting a first for him. Halfway through the season of a contract year his top value is now likely a late 2nd or a 3rd+5th round pick. Realistically the second is more likely.

Either extend or trade him. Personally I want him extended but if not then trade him.

Pickens was available for pennies on the dollar a few months ago because hes such a gamble. The talent was never really a question for Pickens, but rather if a team could trust his behavior after giving him a huge extension. I'd still like him back on a reasonable amount of guaranteed money, but I think the gamble is still very much there.

I'd do it provided it gave us an NFL ready impact player on defense.

But my faith in Jerry, McClay and the defensive scouts and their recent early defensive draft picks is at an all time low confidence level.

Freakin sucks man.
