In the offseason I heard alot about how the Boys were going to the 12 personnel as their base offense. I haven't seen any 12 personnel in the preseason. I'm not a fan of the 12 Offense by the way. Why haven't we seen it more?

You must be confused about 12 personnel or have not watched the games. They have used it often in all of the preseason games.

Just to be clear, anytime that they have 2 TEs, 1RB and 2WRs in the game, that is 12 personnel. The TEs can be aligned anywhere from on the line, in the backfield or split out wide.

I think the issue with these kids is that they aren't seeing two tight ends out wide going in passing routes....

I made a thread about why Escobar wasn't being featured so much, and some posters suggested the fact that we were playing our cards close to our chest for the preseason. Made a lot of sense to me, at least in the regard that I was looking for, as for your thread, the Miami game was like, all 12 personnel for the entire first half.

I don't think it has much to do with playing cards close to the chest. I don't think he's ready or anywhere near it. Why would they put Hannah out there but not Escobar?

He's pretty awful at blocking and looks reluctant to engage more often than not. To be honest, he seems overwhelmed after having made the jump from small division football to the NFL.

Bob's right. He posted the numbers as S11 accounted for a massive amount of the yards last year. Not really shocking because that's hurry-up mode but why not use that before being pressed up against the wall if it works?

I don't have the numbers to back it up but just based on what I saw, the more TEs that came into the game yesterday the worse the running looked. Small sample because I really only got through the first half but Hannah struggled a bit yesterday and Escobar was worse. You're basically letting two extra guys stack the box without a decent ability to block them from your #2 and, when used, #3 TEs.

No, its because Escobar is laughably weak.

I suspect Escobar is relatively quiet this season, at least early on. He'll be a situational player and a red zone option.
TE position is a really difficult one to transition to in the NFL. It's reasonable he's going to take some time to adjust. I think the posters who've concluded he's too weak and that he can't block are just popping off because they wanted a second round OG, to be honest. The team said when they drafted him they thought he had all the tools to play the position, including the y role, and that blocking and strength were the areas of his game where he was going to have to improve for the NFL. No really mystery that blocking and strength are the areas he's ended up needing to improve, then. But his limitations in these regards are just being overstated for dramatic effect. Bottom line is the natives wanted more Oline than they got, and they're going to keep on being unhappy about it until they get it. Despite the fact that the team hasn't been as concerned about OL as they've been about other areas of the roster where our deficiencies are actually more likely to get us beat.
