15 years ago a QB drafted by the Cowboys in the 2nd round had a great preseason game

He completed 9 passes in 15 attempts, while also throwing for 2 TD's and 167 yards. His name was Quincy Carter.

He was also a starter, he had almost the same attempts, more yards and the same TD's. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here, preseason isn't regular season, Quincy Carter proved that.

I'm not saying Dak will be a mediocre NFL quarterback, but this game doesn't mean that he will be a sure star either. Carter by the way was a much higher prospect that Dak.

I remember that game well and it gave me hope because Quincy lead the team to a comeback win. No one should be carving out a HOF bust for Canton if that is the main point of your post.

But Quincy never made throws like Dak did, his WRs made him look a lot better than he did. He also wasn't a better prospect than Dak, he was a 4th rounder that Jerry forced as a 2nd round pick . He also had an attitude at UGA while Dak has been known as a leader his whole career.

Also Quincy never really improved with coaching, while Dak clearly has - and has done so quickly.

And according to David Helman....Dak was sucking it today. One decent half of football...all went to his head:eek:

Comparing him to a crackhead isn't a fair assessment either.

Quincy had some ability, but no head on his shoulders.

But like I mentioned in another thread, a lot of terrible QBs have had stretches of 12 throws that were amazing.

And anyone who ever has picked up a football and tossed it knows the difference between the ducks Carter threw and the on target professional passes Dak threw.

Not saying Dak will ever amount to diddly-squat.

But nice straw man you just knocked down.

Final note about much better prospect.

Only in the eyes of Jerry Jones.

I'm honestly not trying to be a spoiler, but let's all be a little more cautious when it comes to projecting quarterbacks.

If he works out he works out, if he doesn't he doesn't. It's fun to hope and extreme to compare him to an unintelligent, unmotivated player.

I've been saying Dak is special from the moment we drafted him, yet I have not lost touch with "reality" (pun sort of intended) .. he's a rookie quarterback and it was the first preseason game and despite the anointing oil flowing freely by several fans the last few days, he still has a lot to learn and will likely take several steps forward and backward before he is ready.

That said, while you cannot write him down for future franchise quarterback at this point, you can at least say he did not look horrible and lost out there, so that's definitely something to be happy about.

Oh how quickly we forget 435yards and 3 TDs playng for a team that was mailing in the season...

With TWO interceptions and what was the final score that day? That's right .. Cowboys lost .. What was his record as Cowboys quarterback? 0-3 .. yeah, that's awesome.

You better prepare yourself .. the day is coming when Moore won't be on the Cowboys any "moore" :(

1. I don't think anybody is seriously considering Dak being a great QB after 1 preseason game.

2. Talent wasn't a problem for Quincy. Having a 10-cent head and major emotional issues was a problem for Quincy Carter.

Why? What good does it do to be cautious? What is the advantage of being negative? None of us makes the decisions, nothing we say or do can possibly change anything about the situation - so why not simply enjoy it?
