15 Years of Jerry DC Hires

All Jerry had to do was let Schottenheimer use his connections in the league to find a young promising guy like he did with Adams, but no, Jerry has to hire the DC first so everyone knows he's the real boss and not the head coach.

Of course at that time I'm not sure Jerry was that sold on Schotty and had no idea who Klayton Adams even was, much less that he'd be so good. Because Jerry is a football moron.

Pasqualoni - horrible
Rob Ryan - below average to bad
Kiffin - horrible
Marinelli - average (two good seasons)
Nolan - horrible
Quinn - good (all three seasons good)
Zimmer - horrible
Eberflus - horrible

So in the last 8 DC's that Jerry has hired there has only been one that is good (Quinn), one that is average (Marinelli), one that was below average to bad (Ryan), and FIVE downright terrible choices (Pasqualoni, Kiffin, Nolan, Zimmer, and Eberflus).
There was an overwhelming number of Dak fans that blamed Quinn for not being able to give Dak the 85 Bears to try and drag him to an NFCCG. Another corpse on the pile.

Quinn was smoke and mirrors. They overachieved stat wise, but it was pass rush and turnovers or they didn't stop anyone.

Zimmer was just here to hang around like a vulture, incase McCarthy got canned mid season. I dont think he put in much effort into the defense.
Thats essentially what you should expect when you continue to hire old re-treads

While you may be right in the long run I'd sure take a pass rush and turnovers right now.

They love that soft zone crap that doesn’t disguise coverages.

They always have.

Its because you any player the find off the street can quickly pick up the defense because it’s so common.

I hate it & always have.

It’s too easy for QBs & your front 4 has to be other worldly, your middle linebacker has to basically be Urlacher as well.

It’s so frustrating.

I can’t believe they got the Schottenheimer pick right.

Imagine if they had botched that one.

LOL @ all hindsight on "we should have kept DQ." As I remember, most on the forums were "don't let the door hit you" when teams were coming after him. DQ was blamed for the running problems, then Micah took the heat on the forums.... the problem is staring right at you for 30 years. Only one constant through all of this.

This forum has no clue about anything defense.

People’s expectations about what defense is in today’s game are delusional.

Nearly every NFL defense is bad because the rules handicap them so much.

The Broncos & Browns play the best defense in the NFL.

The rest of the nfl defenses are average.

Dallas is just a different level of bad.

The 2023 matchup with the Packers required our offense to enter a shootout & Dak wasn’t up to it.

The defense didn’t have a great day but that was an elite defense the entire season for this era of football.

I called the Zimmer disaster even before Jerry hired him when the rumors were floating. I knew two things; Jerry would hire him, and it would be a disaster.

I knew this because Zimmer has always stunk, and stunk it up here in his first stint as DC back in the early 2000s. I think his record for 200 yard rushers given up in one season still stands as an all time shame record.

I caught hell for that on here because in a world of lies, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. Lots of people don't like me because of that, but I have been right about nearly every call I've made these last few years. Things like bringing Zeke back, Dak's contract, getting fleeced in the Parsons trade, Mazi Smith being a bust (called that one in his very first preseason game with the old reliable eyeball test), last year's collapse, this year's collapse, and many more than that.

Although I do have to admit that Zimmer was an even bigger disaster than I thought. He turned Quinn's 5th ranked defense to 31st overnight. I figured we would drop to the 20's, but Zimmer bottomed this thing out and it's still there.
Agree with your whole premise of this thread brother but Jerry's rescue job with Quinn is worth mentioning.
And I ain't no Jerry apologist.
Remember Nolan was in fact a McCarthy buddy hire whom McCarthy wanted to keep even after that prison rape of a defense that year.
I know, thats one out of however many but still worth a mention imo.

Heck, Quinn and Moore did most all the heavy lifting during that whole McCarthy tenure if ya ask me but that's another discussion altogether.

There is no way this defense is ranked 31st

 The Holywood in football sticks to offense. Jerry sticks to that base fully. Only he still doesn't win for combinations of reasons.

Familiarity breeds contempt.

Certainly from me.

Jerry likes to lament the fact that they’ve had “three defensive coordinators in three years”.

Who’s fault is that, Bossman?

You knew Zimmer was talking about retiring before you hired him! What did you think was gonna happen?

Sadly, we’re living through a repeat of 2007, when the Joneses hired a coordinator before they hired the head coach.

That cost us all a decade.

And Jerry learned nothing and did it again.

It is hard for me to blame Zimmer and Eberflus too much when you take into account that they have lost 9 starters from Quinn's defense and a bunch of backups and haven't replaced any of them with NFL caliber players with the exception of Clark.

Bland and Clark are probably the only 2 players on defense that would start on another team and there are only a few other guys that would even make a lot of NFL rosters.

The minute Jerry hired a DC before the HC I knew it was going to be more of the same with this team.

I'd like a homer's greatest hits selling us each one of these guys. I remember people trying hype up 80 year Monte Kiffin back in the day. Good times.
