Well Spencer does not have a fruity little nickname like the "ghana pirhana," so he's got that going for him.

At least Ekuban is still playing and has been a starter for most of his career which is more than can be said for several of our other 1st round picks.

Ekuban was a Jerry/Lacewell pick & combined that was a lethal threat -- to the Cowboys.

It's more likely this pick was made because Wade make it known he needed another pass rusher for his defense to work & that Spencer was the player he'd like. Remember Spencer comes out of a Purdue system that has produced some good DEs in the NFL like Shaun Phillips who was drafted by the Chargers in Wade Phillips first year as DC of the Chargers & converted to OLB. Now Ware/Cowboys have a chance to do the same thing Wade was able to do with Phillips & Merriman. Also Purdue's head coach has stated that Spencer is a better player then any of his former DEs including Shaun Phillips.
