Here's what I think, they go into NY and beat the Giants with Cassel as QB.

Eli will be sacked six times and throws two picks....yes Cowboy defenders will catch two balls from opposing QB.

The defense will be at full strength. Jerry will be all over Garrett and Linehan during this bye week to turn this offense around. I think we're gonna see a lot of personell changes. Collins for Leary. C Mike for Randle and McFadden and Cassell for Weeden.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see some shakeup at receiver too.

It's a sad day when we all agree and hope Jerry Jones rips into his coaching staff to change things up.

Cassell has to play.

I've seen enough gutless, run and punt football for a lifetime.

It's time to try and go win some games instead.

As much as many on here like to compare Garrett to Jimmy I can't ever imagine Jimmy Johnson playing as gutless as we have the last 3 weeks.

Jimmy (and most coaches) would have known they were going to need to score some points to keep up with the Pats. Taking the FG in the third was a give up moment. You had to go for it there, the 3 points were pointless (pun intended). Gutless.

Start Cassel and start Michael. I want a RB that punishes the defense and wares them down. Randle is a change-of-pace guy, he should not be starting. McFadden is done. Cross your fingers with Dez, but at least if Butler can come back, it would give us a guy that can blow the lids off of a defense.
Cassel is not the savior, but he has won with a decent supporting cast. Weedon just can't win.

What's the plan?
This might be our season here.

We need to get to 3-3

I think it all starts with a QB that can throw more than 10-15 yards. Cassell in.

you want to get honest. lets get honest. the team shoud draw the line in the sand. "we dont beat the Giants, we prep for next season, we trot out guys and see what we have we start planning for the off season.

Thats what they should be doing. Every week "thsi is our season right here". No, the season has left you. People want to keep beliving. Pick a week, thats it, you lose, you are done. That time has come and gone. Its going to be another year where every team has to decide for us and i think every team has decided to go forward or keep with their regular plans, we should do the same.

These next 3-4 weeks can do a big part in deciding this division. Giants lead the division at 3-2 with everyone else at 2-3. Cowboys have their bye next week, Commanders play the Jets, and the Eagles and Giants go head-to-head. I'm not sure which one would be better/worse for us: Giants at 4-2, Eagles at 2-4 and us at 2-3 after the bye to face the Giants in 2 weeks... or Giants and Eagles at 3-3 when we play the Giants for the division lead?

Cowboys, Eagles and Giants all play each other in these next 4 weeks. Any one of them can create some distance in the division. I think the worst case scenario would be for the Giants to continue winning and us to continue losing. Our next 4 weeks is BYE, Giants, Seahawks, Eagles. I'd love to be 4-4 with all 4 wins coming against the division, then our 2 games against the Commanders late in the season when Romo and everyone else returns.

But it'll be tough to beat the Giants the way we've been playing lately. Our best hope is to get the defense back at full strength, get Dez back to add a weapon on offense, and figure out our QB and RB situation in the next 13 days. Hopefully we can rely on our defense these next few games. As bad as Weeden has been, it was a lose-lose situation with a depleted offense and defense, then when our defense finally got healthy we played the Patriots. I won't let yesterday's loss get me down. The fact is, we went to the wire with the Falcons and Saints with a depleted defense. Hopefully the rush men in full force will be enough to win 2 out of the next 3 games.

The offense has been a problem but plain and simple the defense needs to force turnovers. 3 in 5 games is unacceptable.

Jesus, imagine when Romo retires for real. That's gonna be a very sad day.

Which is why the Cowboys need to seriously consider using a #2 on a QB very soon. They need to use a high enough pick to try and come up with a solid prospect. This season may get them to seriously address the position because the clock is ticking on Romo he's gone through back to back seasons with injuries that have sidelined him. The team needs to draft a QB and develop them into a reliable backup who can win some games and will be able to take over for Romo when he's done.

We can afford to fall to 2-4 if it happens, so this won't be our season. However, we still need to pick up at least two victories while Romo is out to have a chance. The Giants are a team we stand a chance to get one of those victories against if we can rattle Eli.

I feel sorry for Romo because he's likely going to have to lead this team to victories in all of its games down the stretch for us to have any shot at the playoffs ... if we manage to get those two victories.

Well if the Giants win this week then beat us they'll be 5-2 and we'll be 2-4 so that pretty much does end our season does it not?

I think people are underestimating how hard it is to get and KEEP a competent backup qb on a roster.
I don't think the patriots would be to comfortable trotting out jimmy G. And most would say they are the best run outfit in the business.

Here is how I look at the backup QB situation, two simple questions. First, as a Cowboys fan, who would you rather have as a backup QB: Jimmy G or Weeden? I would take Jimmy G hands down and I would also bet money that the majority of Cowboys fans would agree with me. Now, same question to Patriots fans and again I would bet money that the answer is the same.

That said I'm ready for a change. Seen enough of weeden. Fact is we are only going as far as our d and o line can take us till tony gets back

I am with you there, the status quo is not working.

I've got a good feeling qb will be a top priority in next year's draft. Saftey and receivers too

I'm concerned that team management will ignore the Pats game because they're a top team and look at the Saints and Falcons games and figure that with Dez, Hardy, RoMc they would have won those games. Then they'll consider the Giants to be similar to those teams and just stay with Weed.

We need to find ways to threaten deep and maybe hit a few plays deep. That will loosen up the short and middle which will allow for Beasley and Witten to be more effective and open up some running plays.

This may sound crazy, but I may work on going with some Max Protect with 12 personnel. Have Hanna do some block and release. Give Williams and Butler (assuming he will be back) some time to get separation. Even if it results in an incomplete pass, it keeps the defense honest because I would imagine that the Giants will just double underneath and go man on the deep stuff. Perhaps throw in Collins as an extra tackle to show run and instead max protect and throw deep. Maybe try and get McFadden in man against a linebacker and have him run a go-route. And heaven forbid...maybe a trick play like a flee flicker (Garrett's mind may melt).

Defensively, I think the Niners had the right idea with Eli. You want to play a lot of 2 deep coverage, but flush Eli out of the pocket. The only thing the Niners didn't do well is that they didn't protect against the gimme throws when Eli was on the run. His INT came when Eli was flushed right and had a fairly easy throw, but it was downfield. He threw it poorly and it got picked. But other than that, when he got flushed out of the pocket he had a lot of short, easy throws. Take those away and I think we can start making turnovers on defense.

Dez and Gregory are on schedule to start against the Giants I believe, so that'll be big. McClain will be in there as well. Our defense should have more opportunities than last time. With the pass rush improving, and the lack of TO's we've forced. Our defense is due for a game. I wouldn't be surprised if Lee has another Eli pick this game, he has his number.

I think you absolutely start Cassel against the Giants, just because you don't really have an option. The book is out on Weeden. Yeah, Dez is going to open up the playbook but as I said a few weeks ago, and Sturm just confirmed, Weeden has been the checkdown king his entire stint in Dallas. He also has serious issues reading a defense. If Dez is starting I have as much faith as Weeden checking it down to Randle, or throwing it to a Giants defender sitting 8 yards in front of the route, when he tries to force it to Dez.

Cassel adds an element of surprise. The Giants game is about as serious as a "must win" you can get at this point. There's no film of Cassel in Dallas. That gives you a significant advantage. Mix up the playcalling, come out firing intermediate routes to Dez and the Giants could be on their heels the entire game.

I have some hope against the Giants. Our defense will be the healthiest it's gonna be all season and we should have a play maker on offense in Dez. You can't lose 4 in a row and expect to make the playoffs. I think this game will really be a "must win." With a loss, we lose our tie-breaker with NY and fall multiple games out of the division lead. We need to win the Giants game.
