So, no team has ever recovered from two games under .500 at this point or 2-4 to make the playoffs or win the Super Bowl?

Granted, usually teams that start that poorly don't because they are that bad throughout the year, but the situation is different for Dallas. I'm not going to set my sights high with Romo out. Yes, I want to beat the Giants, but I'll be satisfied if we can get just two wins before Romo comes back and at least have a shot. And we will have a shot if we can do that.

Will it be easy if we're 4-6 when he returns? Absolutely not, but we won't be out of it. That's all I can ask at this point.

Ok.

But I'm asking for more.

The backup QB had a 2 win cushion to work with.
It's now a -1 deficit.

If there is 6-7 more games without Romo, I expect backup QB to win a few games.

2-3

3-3 over next 6 for backups.

Leaving a 3-6 record with Romo out.

Grand total = 5 - 6 = as bad as it can get... Or we are done!

4-7 and we are fudged.

Man, I think expecting a Weeden-led team to go .500 is asking a lot. Maybe if we switch to Cassel we can pull that off.

Besides, I'm not expecting six more games before Romo's return. I'm expecting five, which puts my expectations about in line with yours: 2-3. I think two victories is about the most we can expect and we'll be 4-6 when Romo returns.

I don't agree that we're done at 4-7, but we're as close to cooked as we can possible get. There would be absolutely no room for error and we would have to hope for help from other teams against our division foes (which isn't out of the realm of possibility considering the division doesn't look like world beaters this year). It certainly would have been nice if New Orleans and San Fran had won Sunday.

It's going to be tough no matter what, but that's usually what happens when you have to start your backup QB. We probably should count our lucky stars if we still have a shot when Romo returns.

#1. 3-6 is not .500

#2. Weeden STILL hasn't won a game. 0-3 with... 5 to go...

No. 1: 3-3 is .500 and that's what Weeden would have to go to get us to 5-6. Do you really see him winning half of those games if he starts six more?

No. 2: Not sure the point. He's 0-3, the team is 2-3 and he has 5 games to go. If he continues on this path, we-re 2-8 when Romo returns and out of it. If he most likely wins either 1 or 2, we're 3-7 or 4-6. Again, I think 4-6 is the best we can expect. Maybe switching to Cassel could get us to 5-5, but the reality of backup QBs is asking for 3-2 out of any of them might be asking too much. As I wrote in another thread a backup QB posting a winning record is the exception not the rule.
