Not going to attempt a full 53 man roster, just a few major signings that I can see happening + a mock.

Ultimately I think both Demarco and Dez come back along with Rolando and Free at the expense of another Romo restructure along with a Smith restructure. Carr and Melton are too expensive to keep and Parnell, Harris and Carter get starting spots elsewhere. Also time to get younger and cheaper replacements for Spencer, Selvie, and Hayden.

FA Signings
Stephen Pea- This 1 just makes too much sense. Marinelli drafted Pea to be his 1 tech for the Bears and now we have just so happen to have an opening. Inked to a very reasonable 3 year deal

George Johnson- I know everybody wants the sexy expensive right end, but I've never been a fan of signing high price free agents that can back fire on us. Johnson is a guy who got a reality call when he was cut for the 2nd time and made a lot of changes in his life. He admitted to being lazy and overweight in the beginning of his career. He ended with 6 sacks last year despite being a long shot to make the roster out of camp and never getting a single start. Marinelli will love him because he has size (6'4 265) and is all hustle and grit. Fairly low price sign here that could help the team a lot

Chris Culliver- Carr declines a pay cut and is designated a June 1 cut early so a vet replacement has to be brought in before the draft. Culliver looked like he was well on his way to being a big time young CB before tearing his ACL in 2013. Came back to play pretty well in 2014, but the injury keeps his price tag down outside of the top tier CB's. Ends up getting a pretty nice 4 year deal, but still reasonable compared to what other CB's in free agency will get.

And now the draft...

Round 1- Trade back!! I think we end up in a really good spot to trade back. If Winston and Mariota go #1 and #2 there will almost certainly be teams at the top of round 2 with an itchy trigger finger to trade up for Hundley ,the clear cut 3rd best QB. For the purposes of this I'll say its the Rams. We get picks 41 and 72 for 27.

Round 2- Owamagbe Odighizuwa DE, UCLA- Owa isn't the prototypical edge pass rusher because of stiff hips, but what he lacks in an outside speed rush he more than makes up for it with size, strength, and initial quickness. Probably won't ever be a great 10+ sack guy, but I think he will be a very good LE vs the run who will also be in the backfield causing pressure vs the pass.

Round 2- Chris Hackett FS, TCU- The team has refused to adapt to the modern NFL with a coverage 1st FS for a long time now. Hopefully that finally comes to an end this year and Hackett would be a great guy to add. 7 INT's and 6 PD last year while playing all over the field including man and single high. Tall with long arms and is a very fluid athlete. Even if he isn't an every down player right away he would be a huge upgrade to the nickle and dime packages. Only knock I have on him is that he needs to wrap up better rather than throw his shoulder low.

Round 3- Cedric Ogbuehi OT, Texas A&M- Parnell is gone and Free is getting up there in years now, so we need to be looking for a RT of the future. Ogbuehi was a borderline 1st round pick before tearing his acl and has all the tools to be a very good NFL OT. The injury obviously drops his stock, but he turns into a great value for us in the 3rd and trading back for the extra pick makes taking and waiting on an injured player a lot more palatable.

Round 3- David Johnson RB/Slot WR, Northern Iowa- BIG back at 6'1 225 but has surprisingly quick feet and good, not great, speed. However, his most impressive attribute is that he's a natural hands catcher both out of the backfield and in the slot. Creates a lot of matchup problems that way. Also returns kickoffs. I can see him being a bigger, better version of we all hoped Dunbar would be.

Round 4- Marcus Hardison DT, AZ State- Big 1 tech with some pass rush ability(10 sacks in '14). Long arms and broad shoulders and carries 310 pounds very well. Moves well with agility for a big guy and has a pretty good 1st step too. Needs to learn to anchor better, but a he was a JUCO DE who only got 1 year of real playing time as a DT so he definitely needs some coaching and refinement to his game. Nice value to get a DT with his size and pass rush ability in the 4th though.

Round 5- Mike Hull LB, Penn State- Another smart, instinctual, and hardworking LB from Linebacker U. Not the greatest athlete in the world, but always seems to be right place at the right time. Good depth and special teams guy.

like your post. i think Rod and crew are happy with Church/Wilcox, so I don't think they take a safety that high.

I agree that we wont draft a safety that high. I'd like us to but I doubt it. Church is signed until 2016 but should only be used as an in the box safety. He should be used more as a SLB on passing downs giving an actual cover FS that I hope we draft (in the later rounds) to man the safety spot. Now with later round safetys, I do not expect them to just come in and win the spot. They would be situational to do the thing they do best and that is cover as they get worked into the defense. I highly expect that we draft a safety somewhere in the draft just not with our first two picks. I like Drummond in the 4th.

Don't hate it...but I'm not a big fan of Paea and I definitely don't like the 3rd rounder.

I just think a lot of you are going to be really disappointed with your d line expectations....again. Same thing happened last year. Everybody did mocks with us taking 2 and even 3 d lineman in the 1st few rounds and we got a grand total of 1. I'm expecting more of the same out of Rod honestly. Sign a couple cheap niche guys that he likes to fill the rotation and then draft 1, maybe 2, guys. I could always be wrong with that...and honestly I hope I am, but prepare yourselves is all I'm saying.

I think it's just a matter of him declaring kinda late and websites are just now catching up. CBS/draftscout had him as a 3rd/4th round pick originally and they have already moved him up into the top 75 as 2nd/3rd rounder. And I suspect he will continue to rise as we get closer to the draft.

I think your probably right and it will go kinda like the OL was put together.
BUT, I think the sooner this DL is addressed the sooner this team plays
and is compared with the top teams and is winning. Not just in the neighborhood.

Trust me, I'd love to mock us signing Jerry Hughes and then going d line in the 1st 2 rounds, but I just don't think it's going to happen.

I know a lot of you guys dislike projects, but I'd love it if we took Rollins in the 3rd and let him patrol center field. Not sure what he's going to run at the combines, but I get the feeling he may lack the long speed to excel at corner. I think he's got exceptional ball skills though and having the plays in front of him would benefit him greatly. Probably won't start right away, but may be a worthwhile experiment.

Rollins is currently projected as a top 35 pick...he'd have to bomb the combine pretty bad to be available anywhere near the 3rd round

Nice fourth round with the rarely mocked Marcus Hardison. Picking him there would be a steal.

Culliver is a horrible human being. No thanks.

I'd rather bring back Alan Ball than have that scum on our team.

Ok? Something I'm missing here?

The Sacramento Bee insists CB Chris Culliver is still in the 49ers' long-term plans, and they have no plans to convert him to safety.

After Culliver's disastrous Super Bowl performance, there were whispers he could be transitioned to safety. Also, following his homophobic remarks and insensitive comments about women, many wondered if the soon-to-be 25-year-old's roster spot was in jeopardy. Culliver is just one of a two experienced 49ers corners under contract for the 2014 season, so he's not going anywhere.

49ers CB Chris Culliver is in hot water after posting insensitive remarks about women on his Instagram account.

This would be the same Chris Culliver who made insensitive remarks about the LGBT community during Super Bowl week. Culliver pledged to "learn and grow" from his Super Bowl experience, but has clearly done neither. The 49ers are handling the matter "internally." Culliver can't afford any more off-the-field missteps after struggling on it during the playoffs.

According to SI's Peter King, the Ravens were "chuckling about (49ers CB Chris Culliver's) ineptitude in the postgame locker room."

Under the microscope after making homophobic remarks during the week, San Francisco's No. 3 corner was relentlessly challenged by Joe Flacco, and got burned repeatedly. Culliver was the culprit on both Anquan Boldin's 30-yard sideline grab in the first quarter — a ball Flacco appeared to heave in desperation — and Jacoby Jones' game-changing 56-yard touchdown with 1:56 remaining in the first half. Jones simply blew by Culliver coming out of his break. The 2011 third-round pick graded out as a top-30 corner in Pro Football Focus' ratings, but the 49ers will likely consider corner a position of need after its secondary's dismal postseason showing.

49ers CB Chris Culliver issued an apology on Wednesday for the homophobic remarks he made on Tuesday.

"The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel," Culliver said. "It has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly. Those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart. Further, I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience."

49ers CB Chris Culliver made homophobic remarks in a Tuesday radio interview.

"I don’t do the gay guys man," Culliver said on the Artie Lange Show. "I don’t do that. No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do." Culliver's extremely unfortunate remarks help illustrate why there's yet to be an openly gay active player in North American sports, but are unlikely to draw a fine from commissioner Roger Goodell. The second-year pro progressed on the field this season, but has some growing up to do off of it.

Wait, he is a horrible human being because of that? Wow, tough crowd around here.

We have a guy on the team who KILLED a teammate while drunk driving, but he said all the right things so it's ok... Incredible double standards around here. I don't really want Culliver, but calling him a horrible human being without even knowing him, based on a couple comments he made, is about as petty and bratty as it gets.

I'm guessing you didn't want Irvin in the Hall or on the Ring, right?

Fair enough, I don't recall ever hearing about that. Personally I think it's sad that there are people that still think like this, but it's an unfortunate part of the culture. I'm sure if you put a microphone in a locker room you'd hear a lot worse than that. It will be interesting to see if that hurts his free agent stock or not. Its a shame because he's talented too, but I know I wouldn't want a guy that speaks like that representing my company
