Wow! You tricked me. Your point was so well brought out that I didn't realise you were taking a RB in the 1st rd. I started reading others post and I said wait a minute.LOL

I see your point but IMO this drfat is entirely too deep at the RB position to take one in the 1st. Unless it is Mcfadden or (and I just changed my mine on this one) Felix Jones. Jones offers more than just a RB. He is a KR, PR, 3rd down back and back up RB.

I don't know about you guys but I am sick and tired of seeing Patrick Crayton returns punts and go straight to the ground or just catches the ball. If Felix Jones can do this and be our backup RB and KR than maybe we should take him in the 1st.

Bottom line is as long as we get a corner in the 1st rd I will sleep better at night.

I agree about Felix Jones. To me he's a better player at his position than any of the WR's are at that position.

To be honest, there are only 2 WRs I think are worth first round picks: Kelly and DeSean Jackson. Maybe with 28 I would consider Sweed because of his size if the picks fell such that there we not a better option. But I think it is crazy there are some people suggesting WR go 5-6 deep in the 1st round. There just are not that many good WRs.

Kelly appears to be the best bet for impact, long term #1 WR. Jackson is a first rounder because he brings a unique and game-breaking skillset. Sweed might be a 1st rounder because of his size and hands. But the rest of the guys are not 1st round caliber WRs.

There are 4 RBs that are lock 1st rounders regarless of the draft:
DMAC
Stewart
Mendenhall
Jones

There are 5-6 CBs I think have a first round grade:
McKelvin
Talib
Jenkins
DRC
Porter
R. Smith

Personally, if Kelly and D. Jackson are gone (and I think they are), then I hold off on WR in the 1st because anyone you take isn't going to be any better than a WR you can grab in the 2nd round.

I would like CB+RB. We should be able to get a top 4 CB and a top 4 RB. Anyone one on either of those lists would be excellent with me.

In that regard, my draft board looks like:
DMAC
McKelvin
J Stewart
Kelley
Mendenhall
D. Jackson
Talib
DRC
Jenkins
Jones

I'd take the highest player on that list at 22, and the next one at 28th.

A WR taken will be expected to be a starter within a year or so. To say he is a #2 means that he will be STARTING opposite our #1 WR, not a backup. WRs take time to adjust to the NFL game so taking one in the first round is imperative this year.

IMO, Early Doucet is ready to step in right away

That makes a lot of sense.

I'm kinda getting hyped over him too. Heard Maylock say he has natural hands and is a great downfield blocker.

I say we are going to draft two running backs. I say we're going to go Felix "the Cat" Jones and Mike Hart in the fourth. Just a guess

There's no way we draft a TE this year or soon. We are loaded at that position; even have a promising TE on the PS in Hannay. BTW: Witten is only 25 now and absolutely no need get his successor for at least 5 more years. No more drafting TE postings please.

Agree that CB, WR & RB are major needs. What I fail to understand is the inability to learn from past mistakes. Some feel drafting a CB high isn't necessary cause he'll only be #3 and doubt he'll beat out either Newman or Henry. Remember last year and the years before when Henry always seem to get hurt; last year Newman was hurt as well. It sure would have been nice if we had a quality young CB instead of relying on Reeves. I'd love to draft a CB like Domink Rodgers-Cromartie with 1 of our 2 first rounders. He'll be starting before middle of the season cause one of our CBs will get hurt. After all, Ross played well for the Giants in 2nd half of the seasonn (believe they took him at #20) asdud the Jets CB Revis & he started almost from first game. If we use a high draft pick and pick the right CB, he'll see a lot of playing time given the amount of passing we face in upcoming season (Favre, Rothesenburger, Eli, etc). Besides Henry is 32 and Newman turns 30. We must add a quality young CB.

WRs can make a difference in the first year -- not necessary down the road like some continue to believe. Steve Smith sure helped the Giants, the KC rookie WR sure put up good numbers for them. Again how well we draft will depend on what we find out about each WR whose available. If our scouting department does it's job and drafts a hard working, smart, focused, good hands with some speed (love to have James Hardy) opposite TO you better believe with help from TO & coaching by Sherman, Garrett & hard work from Romo that Hardy will be a big help in his rookie year.

As for RB, we gotta make sure he's got good hands to help in the passing game, but also can block/pick up the blitz or he wouldn't see much action early on and that's the kind of player we need. Chris Johnson doesn't block and hasn't shown any interest in doing so. Rice on the other hand is a good blocker, etc. Don't know about Felix Jones but do know he's a good return man which helps us out in a big way on ST.

One more position we need consider. Assume Cowboys won't be able keep FS/SS Keith Davis since he wants to start so drafting a SS to back up Roy Williams and replace him whenever he gets called for a horsecollar or if Cowboys decide to cut him after 08/09 season (when cap allows) we better have his backup ready to go unless Hamlin is to be that guy which means either Watkins or Brown will start at FS. I'm not saying SS in first 2 rounds but I'd sure look at 3rd round for BPA at that position (Jamar Adams, Craig Steltz or Tom Zbilowski come to mind).

As for OL player, I'd love to draft Oneil Cousins. He's listed as an OT but he plays all the OL positions and also is a L/S. He can also be hand in the 3rd round but maybe he and one of the SS we interested in could slip to 4th round. You never know.

If we don't draft a CB with our 1st pick I will freak out...... That is our one true need.

Since you put so much time into this I am assuming you did not realize mentioning drafting a TE was a joke. I will edit the post and put a smiley or something to make sure no one else falls for it.

Edit: NM, I can't edit it, too old. Hopefully people read all the way through the thread instead. :D

That's a great post Michael. Unfortunately the draft doesn't fall perfectly the way we like or need it to. So who we take really depends on what happens before we are on the clock. There really isn't much debate we should go with the positions you suggest. The order may be mixed up because sometimes stuff happens.

No question BDC, simple "dumb luck" or lack thereof will have some affect on who's available at what spot.

But like someone else pointed out-- and correctly so IMHO, there seem to be a lot more 1st round quality CB's and RB's than their are WR's. That in itself will probably dictate CB and RB in round 1.

Cobra: What do you think of Cason? Not in the top 5-6 corners I take it.

you have Porter over Cason?

Also, I have seen Flowers in the first round of a handful of mocks.
