It appears that the injury and weight issues were all primarily in 2012 in going back over reports. It appears that he had two arthroscopic knee surgeries before 2012 and groin surgery after 2012.

He has not missed a lot of games:
2011 16
2012 12
2013 16
2014 16
I know about him. He was a 3-4 DE, playing at around 300 pounds. The Ravens had to move him to OLB because of his bum knee, his knees wouldn't allow him to play that position anymore so the Ravens moved him to OLB and asked him to lose some weight to take pressure off his knee. And he's had weight issues, each offseason he comes in totally out of shape, he's always in Harbaugh's dog house before camp even starts. Like I said, I don't want those guys around. Character is a concern to me, so is his healthy. And to me he's a contract year type player. As soon as he gets his payday he's done, his effort goes out the window. He's not in it to win, he's not in it to be great. Call him Albert Haynesworth. I might be wrong, who knows. But given the options I rather go with one of the other guys.

That's a pretty good name. And wouldn't come at a high price. 6'5", 330lbs. That's a massive guy.
He's listed at 346. :D
I've been a big fan of him ever since he came out of college. If you ask Jets fans about him they'll tell you he's probably even better than their starting NT (Damon Harrison) who is about as good as it gets in terms of plugging the middle. Ellis is Kris Jenkins waiting to happen, just needs to stay healthy. They're the same type of player. Size, talent, upside, health. The guy is absolutely impossible to block, blows up the middle each snap, drives his guy back 5-10 yards. But he's stuck behind Harrison even though he's got a higher ceiling. You don't bench a guy that is playing at a Pro Bowl level just because you feel his backup is just as good or a little better. If we could land him that would be huge...

I've reviewed him in several games from 2014. He played some 3-4 DE as well as 3-4 OLB and DE when they used a 4 man line. I didn't see him dogging it. I also recall him going all out when the Cowboys played the Rams in the preseason. Seeing him running around in coverage as a 3-4 OLB is impressive considering his size.

Sorry, but I'm skeptical on your assessment of his character/work-ethic issues.

Everything I can find indicates that he intentionally bulked up for playing as a 3-4 DE and that caused him to be sluggish. They moved him to OLB and he is obviously not going to get down to the normal weight of a 3-4 OLB.

He was considered a high motor guy coming out of college.

Quote from Harbaugh:
"He's had some personal tragedy, family tragedy," Harbaugh said. "He's had injuries that have just plagued him, and he continues to fight through them. This guy plays with a lot of injuries. He's one of the toughest people that I've ever been around in my life. "Now, at the end of the year, he had these two huge plays in these two huge games that really made the difference. It's just so rewarding."

Yes he got released by the Commanders yesterday. Id love hatcher back on this DL. He'd dominate.

I think bringing him back in fills a huge need for us. I think we can get him back at a good price too.
