I know the thought that a new coach from a different team can some how lure his former players to his new team is sometimes abused and over rated but the Chargers have to FA's that will hit the market March 2nd that I think could really help Dallas.

OG Kris Dielman-He's only 26 years old and has the mean streak and attitude this OL misses. He's more of a old school mauler then finesse player. Perfect replacement for Rivera

LB Shaun Phillips-He's only 26 years old, had 11.5 sacks despite missing 3 games last year. It would be nice to have a LB that knows Phillips scheme.

I'd love to get both of those guys, particularly Phillips, if they are available.

Right now they are both unrestricted FA's. Unless SD gets them wrapped up before March 2nd chances are they are going to at least listen to offers.

Did someone post yesterday that Phillips was restricted? I may have mis-read, though.

Phillips is RFA.

Dielman would be nice - but I really doubt SD lets him get away. A team with a young QB and a great RB isn't going to let a great young OG leave.

I don't want RFAs -- too costly. I'd be happy with Dielman only, assuming he is that good. What do people know about Dielman?

Phillips is an RFA and even he werent, they would not let him leave

Dielman would be a nice add, but I doubt they let him leave either...I would not break the bank to get him though

A better option would be Phillips' backup Carlos Polk. He's an unrestricted free agent that's shown some good pass rushing skills in limited action and won't cost a lot. I talked to a defensive coach from San Diego last month and he said Polk has a chance to be really good once he gets an opportunity to get on the field more. Obviously Phillips knows a lot about him and he could be a nice free agent steal for the Cowboys.

My bad guys, the site I got the list from had him listed as unrestricted. I agree if that's the case, not worth what it would cost.

I like these guys.

But the one guy I look for is Donnie Edward -- he's under contract but will likely be cut.

He's a defensive leader who is a bit long in the tooth -- but he could be that 1 great leadership addition we've needed since Roy went into his shell.

Maybe we'll get a stab at Dielman:

Chargers | Team may lose Dielman
Fri, 9 Feb 2007 07:36:23 -0800

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers OG Kris Dielman may leave as a free agent in the offseason. Teammates have expressed pessimism regarding the possibility of Dielman remaining. The Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns, among others, are expected to bid for Dielman's services.

Not sure of Shaun Phillips. I can see perhaps Donnie Edwards or Steve Foley coming here though.

Foley's career is pretty much over. And he's a turd.

I still seriously doubt it. They have a month to work something out and can still franchise him. It isn't like he's on a crap team and wants to go to a winner.

Yep, on the Edwards bandwagon as well.

No way do they franchise him. This isn't Steve Hutchinson or LeCharles Bentley from last year we are talking about. It's Kris Dielman. He is good. But he isn't getting the franchise tag.
