2 Things I Don't Understand

Spencer already signed the franchise tender, so we are on the hook. I think they misjudged what the free agent market was going to be when they decided to tag him.

You don't save money on Free until June, no point to get rid of him till then.

this absolutely
poor planning compounded by poor judgement on spencer

Still, that helps us more than it hurts us, because ......

only on CZ can you say bad planning and poor judgement "helps us more than it hurts us" with a straight face

Bravo

Care to provide the rest of my actual quote and then explain in what universe you interpreted what I actually referred to as helping us (age of the player and the current state of the league salary cap) related in any way to 'bad planning?'

Or is this just more of you responding to something that wasn't actually said?

No kidding. I even said we got ourselves over a barrel on Spencer to begin with in that same post he's cherry picking from (well, I said 'up a tree,' but it means the same thing).

We mishandled Spencer each of the last two offseasons, and the only reason we've got a chance to extend him at all at this point, if we want to pay a premium to do it, is because the market ended up being softer for DEs and the league itself has this two-year temporary tight cap in place.

Either way, it probably didn't affect our willingness to franchise him. We can (barely) afford it, and we don't want to be adding DE to the list of things we're trying desperately to accomplish this week.

priceless :laugh2:

with one breath you say you did not imply bad planning or poor judgement

with the next you say this (which is pretty much the definition of bad planning and poor judgement)

and this "helps us more than it hurts us"

excuse-making at its finest

and i have an agenda

you cant make up stuff like this

Cowboys have until July 15 to work out a long term deal, after July 15th if no deal is worked out then the Franchise tag remains in place for the season. So right now there is nothing final on Spencer. Stephen had said before the Romo contract that Spencer deal was also being negotiated
