Been reading posts on the sight for a couple of years now, but this is my first post.

I remember during the off season when it was reported that the Saints were offering a high draft choice for Romo (it was rumored to be a 1, 2, or 3rd rounder). I must admit, I wanted to see that trade happen. I would have been happy with any of their 1st three picks, but imagine potentially scoring a 1st rounder for an undrafted free agent.

We got a 3rd from the Saints for Shanle, and I was going to be tickled to relieve NO of 1 of their other first 3 picks.

Fast forward to where we are now....I can't imagine how ticked I'd be if Romo were playing this caliber of football for another team and we were sitting here with Mr. Bledsoe, knowing that Romo had been here and we never gave him a look.

Hey, I'll be the first to admit that over the past several years I've coveted many of the bluechip QB's being drafted (Palmer, Rivers, Harrington, Brees, Carr, Boller, A. Smith, etc). Now, we've got an undrafted FA (making a fraction of what these other QB's are being paid), and I would be hard pressed to trade him for any of them (Palmer, Rivers....maybe).

Given how some of our higher picks that have not panned out (Peterman, Henson...3rd rounder to Houston), it really feels pretty good to think that Jerra might have pulled off the Great Train Robbery by getting a franchise QB for next to nothing.

I know that Romo is not ready for the HOF quite yet, but I have not been this excited about our guys since the early/mid 90's.

Welcome to the posting world. Nice thoughts.

Not to toot my own horn but I was one of the ones who said that it wasnt worth trading Romo for a 1st if they thought he had a chance to be a starting QB in this league. Its just too hard to find good QBs no matter what round you pick them in. Ive been a fan of his since day one but no way any of us ever thought he would play this well.

Anyone who has ever made a prediction about QBs has been wrong at least once. I really thought Leaf was going to be better then Manning and Akili Smith was going to be a great one so who knows. I did predict that SD was going to get the best of the Vick trade picking up Brees and LT but even a blind squirrel can find an acorn every once in a while.

Though it was never officially settled, I think the Shanle pick was a 7th.

We are so lucky if Romo turns out to be a Franchise QB. Considering our Draft History, I'm glad we don't have to take a QB, let's fix that O-line next and leave the Smith's and Bollar's for someone else.

I don't know why people say they'd trade Romo for Rivers. Rivers is playing well but he hasn't outperformed Romo. Romo makes the team better by his ability to get away from pressure and convert long third downs. The Chargers were better off with Brees than Rivers (both good QBs).

Way to come out of the closet. Nice post. Those thoughts right there, I couldn't of said better myself. Rack 'em.

The great thing is that Romo fixed the need to draft a QB high AND the need to draft an OL high.

If someone who is expected to in the upper half of the draft order and used to be one of your coordinators offers you their first round choice for your undrafted player that has yet to see the regular season. Ya had better think twice!

I am not sure... but I dont believe anything higher than a 3rd was considered for Romo.

HA! Your kidding right? Have you not seen Rivers man up and come from behind, waaaayyyy behind, and win? I wouldn't trade Romo either.

I agree in most situations but QBs are unique in my opinion, also I think it has been pretty clear that BP and Peyton like Romo so they had to see something about him that leads them to believe he can be a quality starter in this league. Given that its not worth getting a 1st round pick. Just my opinion.

Thanks doomsday...also didnt we pick up an extra 5th, 6th, or 7th pick for someone else. We have 1 pick in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and two in the 4th, 5th, and 7th. I just cant remember how we got the picks.

No problem they picked up a 7th round pick for Sean Ryan from the Jets.

I wouldn't say we got Romo for next to nothing...
I think we've paid our dues by going without a QB for about 10 years, suffering through QC, Hutch, Henson, Intercepteverde, Bledslow, Wright, Banks, etc....wallowing in mediocrity for a decade, not winning a playoff game in a decade....
I considering enduring that....the price we paid to finally find a Romo.
Doesn't seem so cheap now does he?

Man, that would be tough. It is painful to even think about....

I remember there being confusion when Shanle was traded. Pasquerelli reported that it was for a 3rd rounder (maybe 4th) as i recall, but that proved to be wrong.

The profile of Shanle on the Saints website indicates he was acquired from Dallas for a 6th round pick.

Wow, I guess that settles it. Spags was reporting a 7th.

It says TR-06 (Dal) which means trade in 2006 was how they acquired him they got a 4th round pick for him.
