20 Questions: 20 - do you see an new role for Turpin

So that time of the off-season.
So the mothership website stated its 20 questions leading up to TC.

1st up. Is about Turpin and if he gets an expanded role. 4 answers from the writers. I did not realize he had as many touches of the ball on offense last year.
he will be the all gadget player. he will do some end arounds. play in the slot. play outside. go deep. do quick cuts in the middle. run a little bit. he has speed, but smallish so you can't pound him too much. he should see some more opportunities because of pickens. teams have to roll coverage to CD and Pickens and they can't forget Fergi (if he plays like 23, which I expect him too), then it allows players like tolbert and Turpin to get a lot of single coverage look and we should be able to take advantage of that. I could see Schotty, put both Blue and Turpin in the back field, then put one or the other in motion to try and exploit the defense with their speed. not a regular stable of play but enough to give defenses to have to prepare for it.

I sincerely hope that Turpin and Dak spend plenty of time practicing their timing on go routes. I think that’s an area where they can truly threaten opposing defenses.

Lamb and Pickens running short and intermediate routes would open up deep one-on-one shots to Turpin and force teams to play the entire field.

:hammer: Exactly,

it's not the amount of touches, it's the way he was used too much behind a line of scrimmage, you know coming from lining up outside and coming back across behind the line this scrimmage motion stuff... I like him doing that, but he needs an expanded role going out for routes he can clear out a lot of stuff for guys...

So, I'd like to see him with a little less behind the line of scrimmage and take that to another level running routes...

Blue can take those RB in motion stuff.

Last year we were missing Tony Pollard, we didn't have a guy to do that, so they used Lamb, Turpin and others as speed backs, we don't need that enough.

..use Turps as decoy. Say, jet sweep in back field. Think how many Lb's he'd pull or freeze? Opening middle of field.

Nice to have speed on offense.

I’ve wanted this team to attack down the field for a long time.

In my opinion, when you do that, you force opposing defenses to cover the entire field which opens up everything else.

I don’t see a new role for Turpin, I just think they’ll expand it. They’ll find more ways to get him the ball as a RB and receiver.
Short and simple answer is probably spot on.

Turpin is the best KR/PR weapon in the league. He is a threat to take one to the house every time he touches a kickoff or punt.

But…I don’t see Turpin ever being more than an occasional gadget option as a receiver or as an occasional runner in a jet sweep or some such. He is not built to be a receiver with more than maybe 10-20-25 receptions a season. He caught 30 last year but that was an outlier IMO.

When Turpin was a WR at TCU, he never had more than 4-6 touches a game as a receiver/runner.

When a guy weighs less than 170 lbs soaking wet, he’s not built for a bunch of touches in the NFL.

And just think about how that could help the running game. Exciting times ahead for the offense.
