i'm starting to have the feeling that we are going to be like that, very mediocre (SP?) offense and a very very STELLAR defense. if trent dilfer can lead THAT offense to a super bowl and win it i think Drew and lead our staked wr/rb and not so staked O-line to the super bowl.

No way. The Ravens didnt have a WR near as good as TO or Glenn, or Crayton for that matter. Plus Witten and Fasano and JJ and MB3.

Drew Bledsoe > Trent Dilfer
Terrell Owens > Any receiver the Ravens have ever had

I'll be thrilled to tears if our defense is in the same league as Baltimore's from 2000. But, our offense should be considerably better than that team's.

I'd be happy simply because of what they did (win it all), but we have firepower. Dilfer was asked not to lose games back then. Bledsoe will be winning games for the Boys this year, just like he did last year.

I certainly don't think the Stealers were worth a crap this past year either. They were only slightly above average on both sides of the ball. Moreso on defense and less so on offense. The rosters of the champs since about '99 has been mostly unimpressive and the teams in general.
St Louis was probably the most impressive team to win it since 2000 and they had nothing for a defense.
The Pats had great defenses but on offense they had...Brady and....Brady and....Brady and...Vinateri?
Free Agency and expansion has cost the league serious quality

I'll drink that coolaid, but remember one thing, that offense wasn't completely w/o talent .. ie ... good offensive line and Lewis. Also it took a historically great defense to pull it off.

I'm don't think our defense is ready (yet) to take that step, although I do think they will be very good. Our offensive skill players though, are on the whole, alot better. If our line just doesn't mess it up and allows the offense to play to thier above average potential, then yeah I think we have as good a chance as anyone.

Again I see the potential for the same success as that Raven team with a slightly different recipe.

Ravens = Legendary Defense + conservative grind it out offense = SB glory

Potential 2006 Cowboys = top 5 defense + above average/ sometimes dynamic offense = same pot of gold?

Could happen ... all depends on the OLine though.

Defenses are going to have a tougher and tougher time becoming anything close to resembling "dominant" because you can't tackle anyone from behind or hit the QB anymore...

I don't know if our defense will be as strong as the 2000 Ravens' defense.

We shall see.

don't see how we can get mediocre with Terrell, Glenn, JJ, MB3, Witten, etc. The Ravens WISH they had talent like that. I think if the offense ever gets going, it's going to be dangerous.

Ravens did not score a touchdown in 5 straight games and still won 3 of them. That is a once in a lifetime defense. Their tight end was not Heap. It was Shannon Sharpe. Remember his great tip reception and long touchdown run against the Raiders in the playoffs? I think the Boyz offense is much better and their defense lacks the beasts up front and the intensity to match 2000 Ravens. SO, methinks your theory is incorrect.

I'm thinking our team resembles the 80's Giants more than the 00 Ravens. Dominating defense, 3-4 with extreme depth at linebacker, unheralded powerhouse defensive linemen, good but not great QB, running back by committee, terrific tight end, and so on....

... and their coaches looked alot alike. :)

In all seriousness that's a good comparison with a few exceptions. The Giants offensive line was much better, as was their front seven on defense. I like where the Cowboys are heading with their DL and LB units but they aren't there yet. I like our secondary better and we are definately better at WR.

I'm telling ya, with a little bit of Pats and Jets mixed in. Apparently, Bill started valuing his wideouts and defensive backs a little more in his old age. What we need is that risk taker he always had at defensive back. The guy who was always good for a pick or TD when needed. No one throws Newman's way. Roy can only do so much. It's gotta be Henry. Myabe Air Watkins can fulfill the duty. :)
