Do any of you draft experts out there know if there will be some real beasts at Center in the 2006 draft.

Since we will be picking around no earlier then #20 in the draft my guess is if there are some beasts at Center out there then we have a real good chance at getting one where we pick in the 1st round.

Center is our OLs biggest weakness and we really need a REAL center. If we got a great Center with our 1st round pick in 2006 that would be a great move.

I disagree Wolv.
I think C is our best O-Line position.

If Johnson gets injured, we have Gurode.

But if Rivera or Allen get injured, we have... Peterman?
And if Adams or Tucker/Petitti is injured, we have... Noll?

I think we need a beast OT and maybe a beast OG as of now.

In 2006, Gurode will be playing for another team. Peterman is a 3rd round pick that BP likes, and Noll is a FA he likes so thats decent depth at guard with Noll having the versitility to play RT in a pinch. Flo will be healthy so tackle will also have decent depth with the Tucker backing up, but I do see a tackle taken somewhere in the draft.

Having an average Center backing up an average center is not good.

We need a GOOD Center to be starting. Right now we don't have one.

Mike Degory Florida, Greg Eslinger Minnesota, and Nick Mangold of Ohio St are a few that are good. I don't think Al Johnson is strong enough and Gurode is full of mental errors so I tend to agree with getting a beast at center.

Actually I'm hoping we pick up a good veteran center. Don't know if one is available though.

Trade up and get Reggie Bush. That would be the dream pick. We can make up a position for him if we have to.

Probably get a couple OLinemen in the draft. See if one works out. Maybe a FS or CB.

I don't agree with the trading up part, but why wouldn't we want Bush? He's a freakin' monster. He can return kicks, run the ball, and catch the ball. He'd make Brian Westbrook look like a 3rd down back.

I'd rather draft an offensive guard. Maybe find a real gem like the Pats did. I look at guard and receiver as the two biggest weaknesses on the team only because we have two solid guys at both positions who could go at any minute because of age and you could already argue are on the downside of their careers. We need someone to pick up the slack if Larry/Marco or Glenn/Key can't cut it.

There isn't a center worth a 1st round pick in this year's draft... the best of the lot would probably be Mike DeGory from Florida, and he's probably a 2nd or even 3rd round pick at this time...

I personally like Ryan Cook from New Mexico, a massive (340 pound) lineman who can also move out to tackle, indicating he has some agility for a man that size... you could probably add Cook early on the 2nd day of the draft, i.e., the 4th round or so... if Parcells wants to get bigger and more physical in the pivot, that might be the way to go...

If anything is clear about Johnson- its that he cannot handle the big NT's or DT's. We need a more powerfull center. Gurode apparently makes too many mistakes.
So I see BP looking for something better there.

We don't need to picking a center in the first round though.

We managed somehow to revamp our DL in one offseason. Next offseason we need to do the same with the OL, and i'm sure its Big Bill's priority since he realizes we must keep Bledsoe on his feet to have any hope of success. If Jerry and Bill are smart (and we know they are) they can see we have a very nice window of opportunity opening up, and need just a few more pieces in place.
I would not be surprised to see us draft 3 OL as well as bring in a FA at Center if a good one is available. With a dominating OL, a great stable of RBs, a great QB, and a top defense and solid special teams - we're back!!!!!!!
