I happened to watch America's Game for the Midgets last season on NFL Network, and when the show came to the NYG/DAL playoff game, Coughlin mentioned how Jerry Jones bought NFC Championship tickets for the Cowboys BEFORE the game. Now I'm not sure if this was mentioned leading up to the game, but I have to say this really bothers me. I know Jerry wants to win but buying tickets for the team before the actual game just gave extra motivation for the Giants as this was mentioned in the show. I really hope Jerry learned a lesson and doesn't do these stupid things in the future. It makes me wonder if we'll ever get close to the Super Bowl with cocky actions like this by Jerry..

I just watched the same thing, but let's be truthful. If the team had played with the same level of intensity as their owner felt going into that game, we would've hosted Green Bay the next week. That loss can't be placed at the feet of Jerry Jones. He's not coaching the team. He's not executing plays on the field. He's a very passionate guy who thought that his team would beat New York just like they proved twice during the season. I'm not gonna fault him for that.

Oh I totally agree it wasn't Jerry's fault we lost that game. But was it smart to buy NFC Championship tickets for a team had eased up down the stretch while all they needed to do was look within THEMSELVES and get that swagger back? The ticket idea probably planted a lot of wrong thoughts in players' heads that "we got this game easy because we swept these guys in the regular season." No, it wasn't Jerry's fault but he didn't help the cause IMO either..

Stuff like that never ends well.

I know it shouldn't matter, but Jerry should know better.

Rick gosselin confirmed on tuesday that the event never happened. Coughlin just made it up or just got bad info.

And I find it hillarious how the giants players running around talking about how cocky Dallas is. Getting a look inside the giants made me think they are about as cocky as you can get, but for some reason its like they dont realize it.

and why is Tom Coughlin so obsessed with the media? I thought coaches didnt care. Every word out of his mouth was about the media.

He didn't buy them. Coughlin made it up to fire up the team.

the biggest point I have tried to make since I heard those comments is that none of the players would have to buy them, or anymore. They would have bought them in november with the rest of the season ticket holders. We put our money in for playoff tickets in november and we get two tickets. A wildcard/divisional game and a championship game on a a sheet.

so it was all crap coughlin was spewing and rick gosselin confirmed it tuesday.

I have nfc championship tickets for 05, 06 and 07. Just to further prove my point.

Coughlin made it a point to insult jerry publicly. That is a bold thing, especially for the "underdog" team.

Can anyone get a link concerning the Goose explanation?

I ask because Giant fans have provided a link in the NY Times that said Jerry did do that.

I hope jerry did it. In the 90s jimmy used to get drunk and tell jerry rice n co. We goin to whip up on ur boy steve young... N there's nothing u going to do about it. That's the spirit of jimmy johnson and long after we are gone that cowboys team will be known. Now that's the dallas cowboys ppl loved to hate.

America's Game
I received an advance copy of NFL Films' latest installment of its Emmy Award-winning America's Game series, the championship season of the 2007 New York Giants. NFL Films wheeled out James Gandolfini of Sopranos fame to serve as the narrator and, like the previous 41 segments of the series, there were three primary speakers (Tom Coughlin, Eli Manning and Michael Strahan).

The latest installment documents the evolution of a coach and a quarterback, showing how Coughlin softened up and Manning toughened up on the way to a championship. The Giants rallied from an 0-2 start and reeled off 11 consecutive road victories on the way to the title.

I've seen all 42 of the installments now and this one ranks in the top 10. It offered some superb insights to the New York season plus some interesting sidelights.

The most intriguing sidelight locally was the pre-game talk by Coughlin before the Giants-Cowboys playoff game. He told his team that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones put two tickets to the NFC championship game on the stool of each player.

"They've already won this game," said Manning, reflecting on Coughlin's words. "Why do we need to show up?"

After the Giants upset the Cowboys 21-17, Coughlin told his team: "I don't want anybody talking about this in the media – but Jerry just sent the tickets over, so we're all set."

For the record, Jones didn't leave any tickets on player stools. Label this one a motivational ploy.

Thanks theebs!!

They were unaware that media was not supposed to hear Coughlin's initial motivational ploy.

Now they are.

Thanks.

This whole thing gets blown out of proportion. I am a STH and still have my NFC Championship game tickets from last year. Jerry makes you buy the playoff tickets in advance of the actual game once it was clear we would have homefield advantage. You had to pay for 2 games and if the Cowboys don't make the game, they credit your balance for next year's season tickets. IN FINE PRINT @ THE BOTTOM IT SAYS YOU CAN WRITE THEM A REQUEST TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK INSTEAD OF RECIEVING A CREDIT.

I'm sure this is done ahead of the games due to the logistics of sending, recieving and collecting tickets and money for 65,000 seats as this would be a tough thing to do in less than a week. Methinks Jerry likes to make interest off of our "loans" to him as well. I don't know how or if other teams handle it any differently.

The Giants create more reasons to feel disrespected than a 15-year old rap diva, more even than the Pats. What a bunch of little girls.

(Post THAT on your board, Tommy!)
