Max Starks RFA Pittsburgh Steelers
Starks is a starting tackle for last season’s Super Bowl champion. That’s enough in itself to get some teams a little excited about the prospects of acquiring him. The fact that Starks is young, talented, and massive in stature—listed at 6’8”, 337 lbs.—just adds to the excitement pile. Another lineman that shouldn’t be going anywhere as the Steelers will not let Starks go without a fight. The best bet is that Starks will decide he wants to stay in Pittsburgh and sign an extension. If he hits the market, there will be a team or two willing to pay a big amount to entice the tackle to relocate.

Leonard Davis UFA Arizona Cardinals
Davis is a massive tackle that the Cardinals can’t afford to lose to free agency, but it seems likely that they will. The Arizona offensive line is already suspect, and losing Davis may be a huge step in the wrong direction, but the team may have to let him go and find a younger, less expensive replacement. Davis has shown the ability to simply be a wall of protection for his quarterback and while teams might not line up for the chance to sign him, anyone looking for a tackle will have him high on the list of those available.

Mike Gandy, UFA, Buffalo Bills
A relatively young starting left tackle, Gandy had been blocking for Willis McGahee for the past three seasons and he is a somewhat appealing free agent option. He has talent, but isn’t considered among the league’s best linemen. However, a decent starting left tackle doesn’t just drop from the sky, so expect him to garner interest from a handful of teams, if Buffalo doesn’t re-sign him before the market opens.

Eric Steinbach UFA Cincinnati Bengals
Although Steinbach plays the guard position in Cincinnati, he may be looked at as a tackle option by teams in need. He’ll be just twenty-seven when next season opens, so his relative youth could increase his value for a team that wants to lock him up to a long term contract. While the offensive line for the Bengals tailed-off this season, Steinbach will still be sought after, and his age and upside should make him a more sought after player. If teams are sold on his ability to play tackle, then the interest in him could be widespread several teams jumping into the mix.

Other Free Agent Offensive Linemen
Jordan Black, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Dwayne Carswell, UFA, Denver Broncos
Derrick Dockery, UFA, Washington Commanders
Nat Dorsey, RFA, Cleveland Browns
Chris Gray, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Norm Katnik, RFA, New York Jets
Ryan Lilja, RFA, Indianapolis Colts
Sean Locklear, RFA, Seattle Seahawks
Roman Oben, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Brian Rimpf, RFA, Baltimore Ravens
Eric Steinbach, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
Todd Steussie, UFA, St. Louis Rams
Floyd Womack, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Kris Dielman, UFA, San Diego
Damion McIntosh, UFA, Miami Dolphins

rogers was a 2nd rounder right? what happen to him exactly

He had shoulder surgery right after he got drafted I believe and had other problems. Overall, I think he was just too soft for the NFL.

I'm gonna flex my own ignorance here, but how oldis Roman Oben? If he's not an antique he may be worth looking at. Couldn't be any worse than the AFL look we are taking at Lincoln Kennedy.

Leonard Davis, Kris Dielman, Eric Steinbach. Just don't see anyone else in FA to target other than OL. If we get 2 of the 3 take the best WR available with first pick. If we get one keep TO and draft Blaylock.

At least thats what I think today.

The thing about anyone of those players is they are going to demand some serious cash. Leonard Davis sounds o.k. but he was the leader of one of the worst O-lines in the league last year. Steinbach's contract numbers will be through the roof. Dielman seems the most logical to me, yet he won't come cheap either.

Before we sign any of these guys we need to lockup Gurode and Columbo. We may have something in McQuistan (fingers crossed) and while he wasn't spectacular, Kosier was serviceable. Rivera simply needs to go. I don't know the cap hit/saving for cutting the guy lose, but he's clearly not Pro Bowler that blocked for Favre anymore.

Don't disagree but we are at least $18m under the cap. Target 2 guys.....Rivera gone. Columbo is ok...But his run blocking was suspect IMHO.

If we spend cash lets do it on OL.

I agree that FA money should be spent on the O-line if anywhere, but keep in mind that we are paying pauper's salaries to our starting QB and RB. We will eventually have to foot the bill for atleast Romo and we won't be getting away with rookie contracts to our RB tandem for long. I think 2 of the 3 is a little too steep. Target one, pay him and take care of some of our own. Re-load in the draft (with WR being a definite priorioty). Atleast that's my philosophy.

Resign
C Gurode
OG Colombo
OG Procter

Sign
OT Leonard Davis
OG Kris Dielman/Eric Steinbach

Draft
OL Ed McCarthy Yale

Put Davis through the offseason conditioning program and get his fat butt into shape. Let him learn our offense while being Flozell's primary backup....if he shows he is ready to take over, let Flozell walk after next season via FA....

God Bless you !!!!

O-line all day long. And not bums like Rivera and Kosier. Pay the money and get the real players. Steinbach, Davis, etc etc

That would totally make my offseason.

I am not a Davis fan. I would love to get Dielman or Dockery.

I was a Davis fan at UT...but since he has shown nothing.....still, he has starting OT experience and would provide proven depth for our OL.

like i said....give him this offseason, the full NFL season, and next offseason in our strength and conditioning program and maybe he will have fought his way into Flozell's spot on the line
