2014-15 Cowboys are the Best Cowboys Ever?

The best Dallas Cowboys team that I ever saw was the 1995 team that beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl. Jason Garrett has been building the current team in the image of that 1995 team that he was on. On paper you can see the comparisons of Romo to Aikman, Murray to Smith, Witten to Novacek and Bryant to Irvin. Both teams even have a top notch O-line. The current team is missing the top ranked defense that the 95 team had but that's about the only obvious difference. This offence is built to win Super Bowls and if they don't get it done this year, you can bet the coming improvements on the defense next season will make them a odds on favorite to win it then. Please discuss.

If we win the next 4 games, they can definitely make the claim that they are. Not quite the defense of the other teams (obviously) but this is about as good of an offense as I have ever seen in Dallas.

On offense, I think this might be the best Dallas team in a long time. Even the triplets back in the day didn't put points up like this on a weekly basis, of course the rules are a lot different now.

Defense is our Achilles heel......................I don't know if we can outscore the Packers in Lambeau. (I am already counting this game against Detroit as a win;))

The 90s Cowboys would kill this team especially if they used today's rules. Don't get me wrong, I love this team and I think Romo is just as good as Aikman was, if not better in many cases. But the 90s team had an offense that was just as good and a defense that was significantly better. This team lacks the edge rushers and premier secondary that that team had. Not to mention the depth.

Here is how I see it. 8 players for the 1995 team and 3 players for the 2014 team.

Skill positions
Aikman
> Romo
Emmitt > DeMarco
Johnson > Clutts
Irvin > Bryant
K.Williams < T.Williams
Novacek < Witten

Offensive Line
Tuinei
> Smith
Newton > Leary
Donaldson < Fredrick
Allen > Martin
Williams > Free

No need to compare the defense

no the 92 team was flat out insane. offense was insane but the defense was and still only the 2nd defense in the history of the nfl to give up fewer then 4000 yrds for the yr. Their offense was ranked 4th. 2nd in scoring offense and 5th in scoring defense.

Not sure if OP is young, or if this is a joke thread.

Well heck idgit this is better than those "Garrett gotta go and take jerry with him" threads we usually get this time of yr.

Cowboy zone..... Should be renamed to the EXTREME cowboy zone
Or maybe the reach zone

Stats cannot show the differences between the teams. It is not even close. IMO the 1995 team was the worst of the 3 SB teams.

Yep. They had more name rec and probobly talent, but they didnt have the killer instinct the 1992 and 1993 team had.

Good chance if GB doesnt beat SF we dont make the Super Bowl that year. Seifert had Switzers number

IMO, while there are some things that look similar, you can't compare a SB winning team to a team that is in the playoffs for the first time in several years...let's revisit in February after the current team hoists the lombardi

That 1995 team was the weakest of the 3 champions of the 90's IMO. Heck, the 1994 team was better than the 95 team.

If I had to rank the SB champion Cowboys it would probably be:

1977
1993 (tough to repeat)
1992
1971
1995

I hope that come February there is a need to rank the current team here, but at this point I would not rank this team in the top 10 Cowboy teams of all time. For starters, the NFL is much more watered down than it was 20 years ago, let alone 40 years ago.

Personnel-wise, that 92 team may have been the deepest ever. This team doesn't compare but neither does today's league. This current team can beat any current team. That is all that matters. We're fortunate to have the history we have where we can compare different eras because we have had some great ones.

The 1977 team was the best ever.

1st overall in both offensive & defense.

The 2014 team is a Superbowl and a few defensive players away from being considered the best ever.
