I know it doesn't mean much due to injuries, draft, FA, etc. but the Cowboys's 2015 strength of schedule ranks them at 24 out of 32 teams. Their opponents winning percentage is .467 but we all know that the NFL is a week to week league.

Easily one of the most overrated stats is the strength of schedule for next year.

If we take of what we need to do this offseason, next years regular season will merely be an appetizer for the playoffs.

The biggest problem with using strength of schedule is that it assumes the rest of our division gors 20-28 again like this year. We are in great shape if that happens, but like @Bigdog said take it with a grain of salt.

Many thought they had an easy schedule this time last year when they saw US on their schedule...means nothing in a league of parity.

Too bad there aren't any 2014 teams on the 2015 schedule. lol

The Cowboys went into the 2014 season with the 15th-easiest schedule (based on 2013 records), but ended up with 2014's easiest schedule based on the actual 2014 records.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have the Dallas Cowboys, who were supposed to have the 18th most difficult schedule going into 2014, based on their opponents' 2013 records. However, after all the games were played in 2014, Dallas ended up having the easiest strength of schedule in the NFL, playing against teams that combined to go 114-142 (.445).

Of the 12 teams that made the playoffs in 2014, only four of those teams had a strength of schedule over .500. That means the other eight playoff teams got into the postseason in due part to playing a weaker schedule.

After all was said and done, Dallas, Detroit, Houston and Pittsburgh played the four weakest schedules in 2014. Three of those teams made the playoffs and the one that didn't -- Houston -- finished with a winning record.

Anyway, here's the 2015 strength of schedule for each NFL team (Combined 2014 record of all 16 opponents, combined winning percentage)

On the one hand, looking at our opponents, I don't think it is a difficult schedule, but obviously a lot can change.

That being said, the division aspect in the NFL should probably go by the wayside at least the way it is right now.

Maybe play the same 3 teams once every year and rotate home and away every other year, but too many teams make it t the playoffs consistently just because of their division. Winning your division also shouldn't give you an automatic seat into the playoffs.

Schedules outside of that should be completely random, and give teams a fair chance to play a lot of different teams.

who cares who they play (IMO)...I know we get the NFCE 2 times each, the rest is whatever comes our way...I could care less about "SOS" that someone projects....

Normally I would agree with this 100%, but the last two years the NFC/AFC favorite has ended up in the Super Bowl, fluctuation hasn't been as extreme over that period. Panthers were really the only surprise division winner.

They were probably just as surprised as we were. :)

prepare for some teams that weren't good last year, to be good in 15.....
strength of schedule right now means nothing.

Teams were thinking we were easy wins too. Especially in December. Look how that turned out. Can't go by strength of schedule.

Plus they play in the easiest division in football. Jags, Titans, and Texans.... Doesn't matter considering they are a perineal second round exit anyway

you didn't see growth in them getting to the conference championship?.....
i don't know...nothing stays the same... the right moves and indy can be in SBL, just like our pokes.

Historically this hasn't been the most accurate prediction to make but next season's schedule will be tougher than the last one, this team needs to make real progress if they expect to contend. Their game film will be scrutinized more heavily by their opponents this offseason too.
