Season just kicked off a few days ago. The obvious big story was the Spurs blowing out the Warriors opening day.

A few of my early thoughts:

  • Anthony Davis is gonna have a monster season but his team is gonna be awful.
  • My two teams of the future are Minnesota and LA Lakers. Minnesota may not yet be as ready as I expected them to be and LA may be a little further along than I judged.
  • A lot of really bad teams this year and a lot of one-man teams.
  • I think Chicago will be pretty good this year. I see them being the #3 team in the East behind Cleveland and Toronto. I also see the Pacers being one of the better teams in the East.
  • Expect monster seasons from Westbrook, Davis, Harden and Lillard but not much team success.
  • I see another good year from San Antonio. How long do they have left?

About the only point I disagree with you on is Lillard and Westbrook team's not having any success. Well it depends on your definition of success because I believe both will be on middle seed playoff teams in the West which is pretty good. OKC is still pretty good without Durant (Westbrook Adams Oladipo) and Portland was a #5 seed last year and have pretty much the same team.

I believe Spurs or Clippers will win the West. I was never a believer in GS because they have very little defense and no rim protector. Bogut is a huge loss because he's one of the best rim protectors in the NBA, Festus Ezeli was good at that. Now they have trash at center and too many players that need their shots. I have them making the WCF just on pure talent but losing there.

There's a huge lack of superstars in the NBA right now. I'm a Mavs fan and I wanted to puke when they gave Harrison Barnes 4 year/96 million. However the NBA has increased the salary cap and teams have to hit a cap floor and the Mavs had missed out on all the stars like every year and lost Parsons so they had to give it someone I guess. At least he's young and Rick Carlisle is a great coach so who knows.

Portland most likely will be bottom playoff team. So for that, is somewhat of team success. I guess.

The Spurs will once again be a top team. Leonard will be the defensive player of the year for the 3rd consecutive year. He will also be a strong candidate for MVP. GS will have growing pains for about a month, then they will start flowing and winning and winning and winning. On cold nights from the field they will struggle, due to a lack of defense. The team to look out for, as long as they keep it in tact, is Sacramento. Cousins is a beast. Gay is a solid #2. They have a very nice group. The Clippers will be good again, and if healthy, will compete for the Western Title. Portland should be good, but they will only go as far as their dynamic duo can take them. Look for the Lakers to be much improved.

Cleveland is the cream of the crop in the East. Indiana looks to be very good. Don't sleep on Atlanta, but they will fade down the stretch, as is their M.O. Toronto will continue to put a strong team on the court, but look for Washington to take a step back. Adding Wade will bring more wins to the Bulls. Miami will still be a playoff team. The Celtics are on their way back, and are not a team you want to play, especially in Boston.

Compete for Western title as in behind GS's 70 or so wins with around 55 wins of their own.

I don't think GS will get near 70 this year, they've already lost once. I think they'll win 58-65 but that probably will be enough for 1 seed in the West which is all that really matters as far as regular seasons win totals. Might sound blasphemous but I just don't think they're as good as last year they badly need a center they're too easy to score on. Then you got a bunch of guys who wants a bunch of shots and only one ball, but just because of how talented those guys are they'll win a lot of games but not the championship this season IMO. But if they get a center next summer they'll win it next season.

If they stay healthy, i can see them being in contention for a 60+ winning season.

In fact, I would not be shocked if we saw 4 60+ win teams this season......GS, SA, LAC, and of course Cleveland in the East.

I would like to announce that my new favorite NBA team is the San Antonio Spurs.
I wish utter failure on the Dallas Mavericks as long as Mark Cuban owns that team.

I'll leave it up to you all to figure out why.

I'm with you, that Harrison Barnes contract was horrible! (kidding, I know exactly why and it has nothing to do with basketball)

I am loving this year's Spurs team. I really like some of the new additions.....and while we will miss Duncan's leadership, I think we will be ok. I will say that seeing Gasol in a Spurs jersey does look off, after all those years with the Grizzlies and Lakers. I wish he would have picked us over the Bulls a few years ago, and I am sure he does as well. The only player on the Spurs that annoys me is Murray. He seems to be a bit self-absorbed and arrogant. He seems to lack the humility that you see in Spurs players. I know he has a ton of talent and potential....so hopefully he can just keep his head on straight, work hard, and follow the lead of the veterans.
