What Texas Tech does on offense is as far away from an NFL offense as you can get. His offensive coordinator is Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury was also Manziel's OC at TAMU. He doesn't teach them proper mechanics and it shows. They just rely on athleticism instead of the mental aspect of the game. It's backyard style football. Mahomes is a 3rd round player right now. IMO Deshaun Watson and Brad Kaaya are the only 2 good QB's in a weak class. They will go #1 and #2 because they are so far ahead of the rest of the QB's. I don't like Chad Kelly for some of the same reasons as well as immaturity and character issues. Kelly is not ready to lead an NFL locker room. So expect him to be a cowboy.

What is so great about Watson as far as being projected as a Pro?

He is just a more sound Mahones really. He's not doing anything that translates to the pros.

Plus, I don't know who Clemsons OC is but the guy is absolutely brilliant. He dictates the game with his playcalls.

For me Kelly, Kaaya, and Beathard are better prospects than Watson as of now because they all do more than just make 1 read and run.

Watson is very accurate and consistent with his mechanics, as well as his footwork. You saw it on display in the playoffs against top competition. He was dropping dimes out there. That's why he's #1 for me. Beathard doesn't have the intangibles Watson has but does have experience in a pro style offense. I think this is a weak class without 1 stud guy that's ready to come in and start right away. Who knows how things will shake out with some of the mid round guys. But I believe Watson and Kaaya go 1 and 2. With Kelly, JT Barrett and then Mahomes and Seth Russell in rounds 2-4. I'd put Beathard as 4-5 round range. Maybe I need to watch more Iowa football.

I think Watsons accuracy is overrated.

Yeah, he has a high completion percentage but look at a lot of his throws.. Basically long handoffs.

He can throw deep but most QBs can throw the deep ball. I want to know if he can read a defense and pick a team apart and I don't see any evidence of that at all.

1 read football will not work in the NFL.

Which is exactly my argument against Mahomes so I can't disagree with you there. But Watson simply is a more polished passer at this point than Mahomes or any of the other QB'S except possibly Brad Kaaya. Add to that a dual threat QB and teams will be salivating over this guy. I'm not saying he will be a great NFL player bc I don't see that guy coming out of this crop of QB's. But I think he will be somewhat Mariota-lite. Not as good but in the same mold imo. Very good passer but needs time to adjust to NFL game.

Fair enough but I don't really see him being that polished as a passer.

Geno Smith made a lot of accurate throws in college too and you see how that is working out for him. It takes more than that and there is no evidence that this guy can drop back and read a defense.

Accuracy on a deep pass or a 5 foot sideways pass doesn't really impress me because those are easy throws.

Kaaya, Kelly, Beathard, Leidner, all these guys are scanning the field and not just locking on to 1 guy and running.

1 read throw

Ole Miss doesn't run a pro scheme and Chad Kelly rarely takes snaps from under center. They run an offense tailored to his skill set as a runner. They employ elementary passing concepts and give him the option to run or switch to quick pass. None of these QB'S are NFL ready right away. So I'm looking for intangibles. Leidner has size, starts under his belt, and a solid arm, but very little production. 14 touchdowns 11 picks 59% completion percentage. He needs to produce this year to move up into the 2nd - 3rd round. Beathard is 6'2 and unathletic with an average arm. Day 3 guy imo. DeShaun Watson can make all the throws evidenced by how he torched Bama through the air. He's got the arm and the athleticism that scouts will want. I've seen Watson anticipate and accurately deliver tight window throws. We will have to agree to disagree but I will get back to you when I'm proven right.

They don't run a pro scheme but Kelly and Kaaya both make multiple reads within those schemes.

Watson locks onto a guy and if he doesn't get open he either tries to buy time or just runs. To his credit he protects the ball fairly well when doing so.

As of now Watson just looks like a system QB to me. I got another year to evaluate him but I think he is overhyped right now.

Mayfield left Tech for a reason, and that reason is Pat Mahomes.

Mahomes needs to refine his game to make it in the NFL, but he'll be the best QB prospect, by far, to come out of Tech.
