31. Dallas Cowboys

The Pick: S Armani Watts, Texas A&M

  1. After a year in which the secondary was heavily depleted by free agency, the Dallas Cowboys spent picks in Rounds 2, 3, and 6 addressing the back end of the defense. More help is needed.

The trio of Jourdan Lewis, Chidobe Awuzie and Marquez White at cornerback is an impressive investment in the position, and safety Xavier Woods is a good project coming out of Louisiana Tech that might have a shot to become a starter. But relying long-term on a sixth-rounder isn't a solid bet right now. Going after a safety like Armani Watts adds more talent and a higher ceiling at strong safety next to Bryon Jones.

There's no danger in going young in the secondary like Dallas has done, especially if you believe in your coaches. Throwing Watts into the mix would give the safety position the enforcer to pair with Jones' athleticism.

So is next year shaping up as a strong OL/QB/LB class and a weak Edge class?

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too early for that kind of talk.

By draft time next year he could be a high first rounder...or due to injuries, off the field issues (if they arise) or on the field poor play (if they arise) he could wind up being another 6th rounder or later.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too early to tell at this time.

No such thing. I can talk draft all year long.

Way too early to accurately predict/talk draft? Sure.

Never too early to discuss.

They left of guys like Lorenzo Carter, Bradley Chubb and Duke ejifor. There will be edge guys in round 1. And with Lawrence probably leaving and Gregory being Gregory I suggest we do it one more time to solidify the next 7-10 years at the position

That's what I mean...Waaaaaay too early for accurate predictions.

What might sound like a steal now might be the worst reach of all time later.

Brad Kaaya took just a slight fall from this time last year, and almost became a Cowboy.

Chubb is a pet cat of mine - like him a lot. If Carter continues to fill his frame out, he will be a good one as well.

What do you think about Hubbard. Ohio St has two players I want in the next draft

Noticed DE Clellin Ferrell looking at Carlos Watkins and other Clemson players. Just a Redshirt Soph. Looked to be a future superstar RDE. He's 6'5" and 265.

DE Clellin Ferrell

One of my top 2 favorite prospects for 2018.

Got to watch him up close at a practice and then at the Fiesta Bowl this past year.

I wish Dallas could somehow get Derwin James....he's an absolute freak. I suspect he'll be a top 5 pick, so I don't expect him to be a Cowboy....but I can dream....

Hubbard is a great athlete - great HS lacrosse player who was slated to play lax at Notre Dame, but they, for some stupid reason, didn't recruit him for football. Urban Meyer swooped in and stole him. He's a raw player, but has a lot of great physical traits. He's primed to make a big jump this year. Tyquan Lewis and Jerome Baker (as a LB) are two other Ohio State guys worth watching.
