Looking ahead to constructing a roster for next year, and here are some of my desired roster moves.

This roster is based on the assumption that the only major cuts we make are Sean Lee, Hurns, Terrence Williams, and Crawford. Which would leave $68M in cap space. The other assumption is that Dak is the starter next year.

The resigning I'd like to see are:
High price-Lawrence
Mid-Irving
Less than $2M- LP, Rod Smith, and Tavon

Zeke is the only RB under contract next season and I've maintained that in this age of football you need a Solid All purpose back, all purpose backup, and a receiving specialist. Rod is an all purpose backup who contributes on special teams and is Jaylons brother and dont them to split :)

After the Cooper acquisition, the WRs under contract(Hurns cut) are Gallup, Cooper, Brown, and Wilson. We need a speedster and a solid slot receiver with Beasley being a FA. Tavon was filling that roll just fine before his injury and would love him back. He also dampens the need to carry more RBs as he doubles as one. Slot receivers are a dime and dozen and I'd look to the draft to find one.

Irving might be a nut case, because he's a very very good nutcase. On a per snap basis there are few players better. I need to see him, Lawrence, and Gregory on the field at the same time. Elite talent who wont cost it with his issues.

So now to outside help:
There are certain positions that are cheap in FA compared to their peers and those are run stopping NT, running backs, and safeties.

I mentioned needing a receiving back earlier in the post. My choice? Wash RB Chris Thompson assuming he is cut(he will be). He's an elite receiving back who is constantly injured. His last two injuries are due to bad placed balls by Alex Smith that set him up. The good news for Thompson is we wouldnt require but a handful of snaps from him each game, to keep his chance of injury down. He just needs to make his few touches count and through his career he's done just that. Cowboys have no connection to him, so I doubt it.

FS- Earl Thomas
We all know him and what he is capable of. Yes he has links to the organization.

SS- Kenny Vacarro
I wanted to sign hhim this past offseason, and thought he would since we tried to trade for him last year at the deadline. Multiple people said he sucks and wouldnt be an improvement over what we have. Lol. That's been proven dead wrong this year with his play for the Titans. Signed for $1.5M, and id look to sign him for around the same.

1 Tech- Ashawn Robinson
We had him as a 1st on our draft boards, and he's fallen out of favor with the Lions coaching staff despite playing solidly against the run. #5 in the NFL according to PFF. They shopped him at the deadline and traded for Snacks Harrison to be his replacement. If cut or offered for a low round pick I'd jump all over it.

With these resignings and acquisitions the only spots left for the draft that I see would be slot WR, a TE1(good draft for TEs), a fringe LB who can start in a pinch, a high quality swing tackle given our current tackles cant be trusted to stay healthy or play well, a 3rd or 4th CB depending on how much you trust Lewis and Brown, and a 5th edge rusher.

Dak/Rush/White
Zeke/Rod/Thompson
Cooper/Gallup/Slot draft/Austin/Brown/Wilson
Draft/Jarwin/Schultz/Rico
Tyron/Collins/draft
Martin/Williams/Xavier SF
Fred/Looney

Robinson/Woods/Ross
Irving/Collins
Lawrence/Gregory/Taco/Armstrong/draft
LVE/Jaylon/Draft/Thomas/JML/Covington
Byron/Chido/Brown/Draft/Lewis
Earl/Vacarro/Woods/Heath/Frazier

Thoughts?

Totally agree and I would suggest “HOLLYWOOD” for the slot out of Oklahoma in the 2nd, DT/FS in third and RB DEPTH in fourth. Don’t think we need another TE on roster need to give those on team one more year to develop and then when where the position group is as a whole

I could definitely see Ashawn Robinson. I think Marinelli is out next year and Robinson is more like the type of 1T's Seattle employed

Beasley said he deserves to be amongst the highest paid slot receievrs. Dont think cheap is in his plans at all
I agree hes 30...I dont think we should pay big $ or more than 2 years...between Dak,Zeke,Dlaw,Irving,Lee,Cooper,Collins,Gregory,Jones....and depth dont think we can afford it

He's going to NE. Its the best thing for his career unless he plays with Rodgers or Brees. Dak holds receivers back. Its why Witten retired. NO way he retires if he believed in the qb and thought they were contenders.

Our number one need this off season is , a qb. Our 2nd biggest Need is a DT. D Law's been by himself on the d line most of the year. TAco's been out. Irvings been out. One more pass rusher puts this team over the top. Another thing , we need a dt that doesn't get moved and frees up the linebackers while also rushing the passer. If he had a Ngata, or Suh all of these years, Sean lee would be thought of like the Urlachers and Zack Thomas's. He also doesn't get hurt as much in my opinion.

We can't say wr because Gallup will be here for his entire contract baring an arrest. Cooper is young and Elite(Dak just doesn't get the ball to him enough).

I think we let Lee play off his contract (maybe after renegotiating it), and I would say we should try to resign Swaim and Wilson as well. Swaim has been a decent TE option this year for us, and while he will never put up Witten like numbers I think he could become an even more valuable piece of our team. While I preferred Hitchens over Wilson, Wilson has been a decent plug and play player who has started 5 games for us this year and 9 games a year ago which is always useful to have and probably won't cost an arm and a leg. That's just my $.02

I don’t believe we draft a TE at all this year. I personally think we need to give the players currently on roster another year to develop then see where we stand . And besides this isn’t a good TE class and without a first rounder I don’t see anyone in the group that can make an impact being available in middle to late 2nd round so for me TE isn’t an option this year, Slot receiver, DT, SS, FS CB Is where I use my draft capital this year

Why should we wait to give Jarwin, Schultz, and Rico a chance? This is by far our weakest group and needs the added competition.
This is a very good TE class, the opposite.

Only a 1st round TE can make an impact? Why?

I feel like you have more hope than others over a certain TE on the roster already. Mind if I ask who that is?

I'd love to have them back on marginal deals, but I know how our FO works. We only keep roughly 30% of our backups, and 2-3 starters.

Offense:
1) TE - draft (premium)
2) Slot - FA or Draft (premium)
3) Scat-RB - FA or Draft (mid-late)
4) OT - FA (re-sign Fleming)

Defense:
1) NT - FA
2) FS - FA (Earl Thomas)
3) SS - draft (premium)
4) CB - draft (mid-late)
5) LB - draft (mid-late)

At slot, in FA you have guys like Humphries (TB) and Dorsett (NE) right now, the draft might yield a more explosive player w/ better return ability.

At NT, I count 5 FAs who could start ahead of a solid A. Woods. That's excluding DTs like: Suh, Richardson, Ngata, Irving and Jarrett. So far, a loaded FA group.

Part of it is teams are always overpaying for them (see again the aforementioned Hitchens, that deal he got with the Chiefs is insane for such a average LB), I don't see anyone overpaying for Swaim, and hopefully they won't with Wilson, but after the Hitchens deal... who knows.
