Somehow SMU is still in the hunt for the playoffs.
The Miami win in OT was huge.
Now they probably face a so-so Virginia team for the ACC title, if they win their last game at Cal.

ACC could be the 12 seed behind the G5 rep:laugh:

I guess Miami still has a slight shot at an at-large but, as they are ranked 13th, but a bunch of team would have to fold next week.

Mateer has really taken a step back this season. Watching OU is like watching the Longhorns…..never gonna know which QB and team shows up :muttley:
Mateer quietly took a step back late last year too.
He burst on to the scene with star making stat lines as an unknown but once tape got out WSU lost a lot of games down the stretch.

Was a good portal grab but he is not an elite top 10 QB.

You could sort of expect this from say Louisiana Lafayette vs Alabama but Syracuse is actually a real FBS team.
No it isn't, lol.
Syracuse quit on the year and hasn't won a game in 2 months.

Love is a stud but he had 123 rushing yards total in the 2 losses.
Jeanty last year had 104 in the CFP loss to Penn State.

No more bad slates.
Next week will be a lot of great rivalry match ups.
Then conf Championship games then Bowls and CFP.

SMU upset Miami in OT at SMU, but I think Miami beats then 4 of 5 on a neutral field. They're better, imo of course
I think most agree with you, but they only get to play once and SMU got the W by 6.
Jennings was considerably better than Beck that game.
SMU has actually been the best defense in the ACC play with only 104 points given up.
Its SMU's conference title to lose now. they do travel but out to recently Coachless Cal.
Miami has a road trip to Pitt.

If SMU (11.5-point favorite) and Virginia (11-point fave) win, they get the ACC CG nods.

I don't think Virginia is actually very good

The ACC has no teams capable of winning it all, but they do currently have 5 ranked teams.

Texas Tech is the team I’d love to see win it.
Texas AM would be fine too

A Texas Tech vs Texas A&M CFP game would set records for hate and violence.
Since 1970 the series is 22-20 Tech but Aggie has won the last 3 in the series they killed off, and they have refused a regular season match up and had the SEC Commish refuse any Bowl games with Tech.
The last game at Tech, TAMU blamed Tech for putting cow dung on their bus but it turned out it was bait fish and a prank by Aggie players on their freshmen....

Can't run and hide in the CFP though.

Tech, OU and A&M getting in the CFP while UT sits at home would crush the souls of the Longhorns faithful who are only one year removed from a CFP win and thought they had built a dynasty.

I can't really root for anyone but Tech.
But I would definitely support Indiana in any match ups versus blue bloods. I have been trying to tell anyone that would listen for the last 5 years that recruiting a bunch of 4-star HS kids is no longer the only way to win games.

Well, Texas was supposed to be a top team at the beginning of the year so what happens early on is rather less important except if you have an agenda
Right now Love is the top RB in college football and I love that you hate that

i would argue he's the best player.

I forgot what I watched over the weekend where the mentioned every year that ends in 5 a RB has won the Heisman Trophy.

1935 - Jay Berwanger, Chicago, RB
1945 - Felix "Doc" Blanchard, Army, FB
1955 - Howard "Hopalong" Cassady, Ohio State, Halfback
1965 - Mike Garrett, USC, Halfback
1975 - Archie Griffin, Ohio State, Running Back
1985 - Bo Jackson, Auburn, RB
1995 - Eddie George, Ohio State, RB
2005 - Reggie Bush, USC, Running Back
2015 - Derrick Henry, Alabama, RB

He's fine. He broke his throwing hand in the Auburn game, had surgery on it, and he's just now rounding back into form.

Mateer played his high school ball 10 minutes from me in Little Elm, Texas.
Ironically, LE is also 10 minutes from Jackson Arnold who OU recruited the next class.

And you are correct he is fine. But he was talked about like a Heisman candidate and elite portal get and that's just not really true at all.
If you look at his 2024 game logs he had the same type of low completion, low yardage games last year that have dotted this season.

OU has an elite top 5 defense for sure.
But Mateer is a weakness they will need to overcome to win CFP games.
His history versus top 30 defenses is really bad.

He is definitely the best RB in college football right now and I do not hate it all.

But he also bombed the first two weeks in losses and the Heisman can't bomb out in losses.

He 100% deserves to be in NYC.
And if Notre Dame had big time games ont he schedule he could showcase in that would give him a chance to elevate above top 4-5 area but he doesn't.

I do not love Notre Dame like you but I have zero hate towards them.
I went to the same church in Pleasant Grove as Tim Brown while he was on his Heisman run.

It looks like you can draw a line from the day he incurred the hand injury. It's been a tale of 2 seasons. His draft stock has taken a hit for sure. But, he's one of these guys who can easily shoot up draft boards if he has a good pro day workout. I also don't know much about who he's got to throw the ball to. He faced a murders row of defense in the SEC.
