Notre Dame has no one to blame but themselves.

Just take care of business and don’t lose two games to the only legitimate teams that you play, and they would have easily made the playoffs. It’s pretty simple.

All of this gnashing of teeth is comical. It’s called self responsibility.
You’re saying that because you hate Notre Dame. If your team didn’t play and swapped places with another team that didn’t play, you’d be outraged.

And you know it, even if you can’t admit it.

Lol. You literally have no idea whatsoever what you’re talking about. I don’t hate Notre Dame at all. If the Irish played Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, or some of the other big named helmet schools… I would absolutely be rooting for the Irish.

I’m just being levelheaded here and fair. Notre Dame absolutely did not deserve to be in the playoffs. I have no dog in this fight either way. Join a conference and don’t lose to the best teams on your schedule, and they’ll get in.

And yes, I like rubbing it in to those who think their team should be in just because of their name. But I don’t have anything against the team themselves.

To an extent, yes, they should have won one of those games early and this all wouldn't be an issue. But losing to two playoff teams by 4 points total (including one on an awful call) typically wouldn't be a disqualifier for most conference teams. Shoot Miami lost not one, but TWO games to unranked teams in late Oct and early Nov as double digit favorites and it was not disqualifying at all.

The committee is tilted towards protecting the two big conferences as best they can and if you aren't a member of either, be prepared to get the shaft if it gets tight. You knew that the moment you saw Yurachek (the AD of Arkansas who stands to benefit with Bama in and ND out) explain Alabama jumping ND after squeaking out a win over a mediocre Auburn team who fired their HC weeks before while ND bludgeoned Stanford. With a straight face, he said the committee was impressed with Alabama going for it on 4th down late and getting it and their impressive "first half" against Auburn. LOL, what? You saw it again on Sunday when in the span of 3 minutes he argued that they felt Bama should not move down for getting smoked by Georgia in their CCG (and it was an ugly, awful game by Bama with -3 yard rushing) but that they had to "penalize" BYU for losing in their CCG game. Its pretty clear why they felt that way.

Bama did not deserve to be in and got saved by a committee that has strong SEC ties. When former players like Mark Ingram and Damien Harris argue ND should have been in over their alma mater and even the Bama beat writer who votes in the AP Poll had ND above Bama, it's a decent sign the committee put conference affiliation over anything else.

So the committee structure needs to go. Go with the AP Poll or back to the old BCS formula. It's naive to think that when you put people in a room with a financial incentive for having a many conference mates make the playoffs, there won't be some silliness going on behind the scenes.

You let the cat out of the bag when you say "join a conference". Why?

If you set being a member of a conference as some sort of loose requirement to be in, you are unwittingly admitting emotion is a factor in deciding who plays.

Saying ND did not deserve to be in flies in the face of even what pundits who said the bracket was fine said. ND deserved to be in and frankly were one of like 5-6 teams that had a chance to win the whole thing. ND got moved aside because conference and committee politics were at work. Listening to Yurachek garble his way through various explanations made that clear as day.

So blow up the selection process. Dump the biased committee. Stop the stupid weekly shows that are meaningless.

The weekly shows and polls is what got them into trouble as it showcased the hypocrisy and favoritism. If they had kept quiet and done nothing except do the final outcome there still would have (rightly) been a lot of criticism but it would not have exposed the corruption of the process

Agreed. A lot of haters say "Join a conference"

Not a single one has ever given a good reason why.
It is strange that they think ND should be forced to join a conference.
Now to be honest after we were 0-2 I believed that we would not get into the playoffs. BUT the Committee had ND at #9 in their rankings the whole time, and then SUDDENLY ND was not one of the top 12? Alabama that lost THREE games and got embarrased in the SEC CG is and ND is not? to robbie and the other Irish haters, explain that.

The thing that shows the lack of any credibility with this committee and highlights the biases that can exist within the committee was listening to Yurachek say that they didn't think a conference champ participant like Bama should be penalized for losing a CCG............ and then he literally said that the committee thought given the performance, they felt they had to penalize BYU.

Right there, you know you are dealing with a committee that is putting other factors into their decision making processes.

Ivan Maisel was a committee member and had to partial recuse himself when it came to ND. Man, I'd love to get him drunk in a year or two and pick his brain about what happened in that room.

I guarantee the whole story will never get out. It looks too bad for them so none of them will really let it all out.

what is especially disgusting is BSPN and all the flat out lies and propaganda they spread

To this day, SMU's death penalty baffles me.
The whole SWC and SEC were doing that stuff
Yup but UT got to Dale Hansen (WFAA channel 8 in Dallas) and got them exposed publicly so NCAA made an example of them.
It scared most people but not the SEC because they had Dixie Mafia backing and would have simply killed off NCAA's senior leadership if they killed off any of their schools.
They also had lots of money to launder so cash in duffel bags was easiest thing to move to players.

SMU had a bunch of daddy's money types and no clue how to fight dirty.

selective prosecution at its worst
everyone was doing it to one degree or another so the powers that be decided to make an example of a school that did not have much clout compared to others
look at who Jimmy cut when he decided to set an example

Now that paying players is legal, it’s an amazing coincidence that the SEC isn’t quite as dominant as they used to be….
