What do the Cowboys do with the 22nd overall pick?

Joe Thomas (OT Wisconsin) will go very high possibily even #1 though I suspect between #2 and #5. No way he gets passed Arizona at #5. If the Cowboys can pickup Adalius Thomas from the Ravens in FA, how far would you go to get Joe Thomas? This would fix two of the three glaring weakenes. The other being FS. I don't think that is as big of an issue as it seems. I think it was more of how the defense was being called vs complete failure of the players. I think Watkins will be serviceable next season and will only get better.

Dallas needs to get a guard more than they do a tackle. I actually see the draft unfolding this way.

1. Best CB available. Probably Marcus McCauley. Dallas will draft a CB and move Henry to FS.

2. Best WR available. Ted Ginn gets drafted to take over Glenns spot in the future. Maybe Sidney Rice??

3. Best Guard available. I think Dallas will take best available guard. If BP stays, he will take the finesse guard in Ben Grubs. He and Kosier are similar players who would work well in a zone blocking scheme as well as in pulls. If a new coach comes in that likes to run with power than my boy Manuel Ramirez will be taken. That would also mean that Derrick Dockery has been brought in from the Commanders who are still cash strapped even with the increase in salary.

The key to this draft is the order that the CB and WR are taken. WR might go first if Dallas thinks that they can't get a quality reciever in the 2nd but could still get a good CB in the 2nd. What round will Sidney Rice and Tedd Ginn go in? What round will Marcus McCauley or Chris Houston get drafted in? Tackle will not be addressed unless prospects are drafted in the 4th round or lower. Colombo was pretty solid and Adams will be better with another year removed from his knee injury. It will be a future need but is not an immediate concern.

I wouldn't be surprised if we went CB, WR, OG. However, I doubt Ginn will be around at our 2. We also need a NT and a passrusher. OG and CB are real needs.

Of course, there's Free Agency first.

I see OG as our single biggest personel need. It's intersting to note that interior OG don't go high in the draft. QB, RB, WR, OT, DL, CB, and OLB usually make up 80-90% of the first round picks. Positions like OG, OC, MLB, TE, FB, and S command far few 1st round selections.

You go over draft history and you'll seldom find the first OG drafted above 20th pick. A lot of years you won't see one go in the first round.

This is great news! We may very well have the pick of the OG litter sitting at 22.

Here's hoping we get our hands on some 6-4 340 lbs monster!

I believe its wide open as to who we will draft in the first round. I could really see us taking Best Player Available. But heres my latest mock. Taking Jarvis Moss in the 1st round would make so much sense to me. He's this years Manny Lawson only stronger.

1st Round: DE/OLB Jarvis Moss, Florida
2nd Round: OG Ben Grubbs, Auburn
3rd Round: WR Paul Williams, Fresno St.
4th Round: QB Kevin Kolb, Houston
5th Round: FS Dashon Goldson, Washington
6th Round: RB Clifton Dawson, Harvard
7th Round: NT Antonio Johnson, Mississippi St.

People thought the same thing about Marcus McNeil. Stranger things have happened. The 2nd and 3rd recievers were not taken until the 2nd round. Chad Jackson was taken in the 36th pick and Sinorice Moss with the 44th pick. What pick does Dallas have in the 2nd?

If we get Joe Thomas, then move Flozell to Guard. (I've said this a dozen times) His biggest problem is speed rushers on the outside. If you move him to guard (and he has played guard before) then that will eliminate that weakness and no one in the NFL is going to push Flozell around if he is playing guard! Flozell will probably see the Pro-Bowl again at Guard.

The new offensive line would be: Thomas, Adams, Gurode, Kosier, Columbo

This line would be good for a few years to come and you have McQuistan waiting in the wings who has the physical ability to play tackle or guard. Your weakest link would be Kosier and that isn't bad when a pretty good player is your weakest link. Of course Thomas would be a rookie, but this kid is good.

I would love for Dallas to take Justin Blaylock in the first. He will be there but Dallas will pass. I just don't see Parcells drafting a guard in the first. Blaylock will go a few picks later and everyone will be upset.

No way in hell we trade that far up for an O-lineman. Do you know what it would cost to get that far up? At least our first round pick, plus a 2nd a maybe a 3rd. There will be quality picks in the later rounds. Why risk all the picks for a potentail Mandarich. NOt that he'll turn out that way, but that's too risky for O-line. If we were already drafting that high and didn't have to trade up to get him, that's a different story.

I like this list. I really like the Williams pick in the 3rd. He could be one of those sleepers.

no more early picks on DE/OLB's. over the last 2 years we've spent 3 first round picks and 1 second round pick on an OLB or DE. The only way I'd spend an early pick on one of those positions is if a new head coach is brought in and runs a 4-3, we don't have greg ellis this season, and theres a great DE available.

hmmm alinebacking corps of Ware and Moss on the outside with Carpenter and Ayodele on the inside. Me likey alot.

Kolb as a developmental prospect would be nice. Not sure if he'll be there in the fourth, though

I wouldn't draft him in the first. He has injury issues and he wasn't near as dominating all season as he was against Ohio State. (at least from what I've read) Way to many ??? for me.

No need to draft another Kavika Pittman :p:

The whole key to the draft is the FA signings we make. Untill after FA speculating on the draft is futile.

I agree. If you get Thomas or Freeney in FA, then why draft a OLB/DE?
