Some people simply say "running back with #4 pick is a waste" yet they forget that every so often, one is worth it. Others say "Cowboys needed defense and they drafted a running back at #4" without any idea how helpful Murray's running game was to the defense in 2014.

We drafted Tony Dorsett with the #2 overall pick (via a trade w/ Seattle). Dorsett gave the team that extra that it needed to make it back to the Super Bowl. I'm not saying that Zeke is that final piece like Dorsett was. The '78 team was more complete than this one. But we ought to have a monster running game now. Run ball control, keep pressure off of Romo, stretch the field with Dez and burn'em with the pass. What's not to love? You could argue that we should have drafted D first, but giving us a D for this pick is absurd. The idea that every team in the league is best off being pass happy is equally absurd.

I'm not thrilled with using the #4 pick on an RB either, but a "D" is harsh.

Right now the guy has to be favored to be ROTY.

And provided he's not injured between now and the start of the season he's going to be a top 25 draft pick in virtually all fantasy leagues. And watch how fast he goes off the board in dynasty leagues.

Would a "D" player cause that?

We would likely have been able to say all of these things about Devontae Booker, had we drafted him. He went #136.

So, yeah, as really nice a player as Zeke is, "D" is probably a fair grade for that pick.

Ya..they will give him a D now but the offensive rookie of the year later....whatever.

.... No.

Disagree.

Seriously? You don't think Booker would have been favored for OROY behind this o-line?

Certainly, you seem to agree that #4 was too high for Zeke. Just not so high that the pick deserves a D, I suppose.

Look, I love the player. But it was a terrible misallocation of resources.

I guess we'll find out.

But I still wouldn't give the Elliott pick a "D".

Just when IS it acceptable to draft Zeke then?

Also... They're essentially saying "draft for need", which we all know is not the way you're supposed to run your draft.

Ezekiel Elliot is a game changer, regardless of position.

Not even close. I'm a die hard Ute fan that has been to every home game for 6 years Booker isn't in the same universe as Zeke.

It's Pete Prisco. He once criticized the Witten selection. He doesn't like RB even though the two best NFC teams this decade were carried by their RB.

The Cowboys best season this decade came courtesy of an 1,800 yard season by our RB.

Backs are still important.

The idea is worth revisiting now. The trend has been more toward a passing league so therefore most teams try to gear up to pass well and stop the pass.

Dallas showed that they can rush their way to a 12-4 record.

Had their defense been better, no one would have stopped them.

Placing importance on the running back position may be the forefront of innovation at this point.
