I haven't posted in awhile and I have been itching to do one of these. It seems like this entire site is in a constant state of depression thanks to free agency and it will probably be like that until ~2 weeks before the draft.
I have said this from the beginning and agree with Norm Hitzges when he says that we need to draft 1,000 pounds with our first 3 picks. That is the missing link with our team and I tried to address that here.
I used this site as a projection for compensatory picks and utilized a couple of different resources to gauge what players would be available.
1. D.J. Fluker - OT, Alabama
Fluker is becoming my hope for out pick at #18. He would help us immediately and give two cornerstones on our o-line for the next 10 years.
2. Kawann Short - DT, Purdue
There will be a lot of DT prospects to choose from. I think his motor issues are overblown - he gets to the QB plain and simple.
3. Travis Frederick - C, Wisconsin
If Bernadeau and Livings are going to be two members on our offensive line next year, I don't want either of them to change positions. Ideally I would like to have as a backup, but there are too many holes to fill and we have no $$$.
4. T.J. McDonald - S, USC
I don't like the fact that we will be spending another 4th round pick on a safety, but we've dug ourselves into a hole where we are going to have to draft for need this year. Knowing Kiffin's system will help.
5. Nico Johnson - LB, Alabama
This guy is all over the field for Alabama and he would be a perfect fit for our SOLB. If somehow all 6 of our picks came from Alabama, I would be completely OK with it.
6. Miguel Maysonet - RB, Stony Brook
Comes from a 2 RB system and never missed a game in his collegiate career. I looked at Randle/Taylor/Franklin in the 4th round, but I think safety is a bigger need for us right now.
UDFA
T.J. Moe - WR, Missouri
Levine Toilolo - TE, Stanford
Travis Bond - OG, North Carolina
Vernon Kearney - CB, Lane
Colby Cameron - QB, Louisiana Tech
Scott Kovanda - P, Ball State
Braden Wilson - FB, Kansas State
