3-4 doesn't fit Dallas personnel

My theory in why our defense will never be that good is the play of our LBs in the middle. The little I know about how to run a defense. What I see in watching a team say like the Steelers. The LBs have to be very active, tough and aggressive. I don't see any defensive players currently that meets those specs. Bradie James is one of the most overrated LBs dallas has ever had without including B. Carpenter. Zach, bless is heart is a warrior but is past his prime. We just don't have the personnel in my opinion to run this defense on a championship level.

Yeah we probably could revert back to a 4-3, but I don't think that fits the team that much better.

In an act of despiration, Parcells changed our defense to a 4-3. Where did that get us? It isn't about a 3-4 or 4-3. It is about your overall scheme.

Teams have won Super Bowls implementing a 3-4 or a 4-3 Scheme.

It has nothing to do with the 3-4, it has everything to do with the players and the execution on the field.

If we switched to a 4-3, we would still have the same issues, gushy zones, playing 10 yards away from the receiver etc etc.

Also, it would not fix the Offensive Line, which cost us our Quarterback last week.

But in the 3-4 your Lbs are supposed to be the studs...of Zach, James, and Ellis, the only guy who is playing anything like a LB is James, and that's really sad because he's no stud.

I think Zach has been a huge disappointment...he gets pushed out of the play and misses a lot of tackles...he's been a downgrade over Adele.

Ellis is still a DE who should be pass rushing every play because he's no LB.

I remember the last time the fans were screaming for us to switch back to the 4-3 and how it was going to magically fix all our problems in mid season. I believe it was against the Lions three years ago ... and I believe it was a trainwreck of epic proportions (they scored 38 on us I believe) that all the people screaming for the 4-3 just mysteriously vanished.

I agree with the original poster.....any successful 3-4 team has active and agressive linebackers; linebackers who actually makes plays....our linebackers are a passive bunch who are not agressive and I will second the emotion on bradie james - he's only agressive when there is a microphone around or a reporter who needs a quote....the linebackers on this team are INVISIBLE and thats not what a 3-4 needs....On the other hand, with stewart calling the defensive plays a 5-5-5 wouldnt be able to stop anyone either.

Yep, and that was the game where we folded to the Lions in December and Kitna said our defense was a joke.

truer words have never been spoken about our ILBs...they should be getting all the tackles...the OLBs should getting all the sacks....we have the OLBs to run this scheme...our ILBs are barley average for this scheme. that's the truth. Bradie was good in the Parcells 3-4...he is invisible in this 3-4

I watch other teams on Sunday in addition to ours. I've often wondered why is it when other teams blitz a defensive player usually gets penetration and then pressures the QB but when WE blitz the blitzer is usually blocked and creates little to no QB pressure? (Ware getting a couple of sacks in garbage time doesn't really count).

Are you kdding me? Bradie James is flat-out sucking... Zach is the only LB that is showing any pizzazz...

And BTW, Zach was brought in because he is a great pass coverage LB... And guess what? He is being taken out in 3rd and long situations...

This whole defense is out of whack...

I can tell you right now outside of Ware, the Cowboys don't have one LB that would be considered better than the Steelers top 5 LBers.
