3 Safety looks

On thing Ill say with Theineman(who I do really like), is I could see him falling into what I call the Eric Weddle Principle. Where you assume because the floor is high, the ceiling is low, and you underestimate upside.
He might not have that upside, but is expected to be good out of the gate

Just me but I see him as a 2nd round guy. He'll be good, and he will provide a boost immediately. With Kilgore, I think he will be just as good out of the gate, but has the talent to become a real chess peice type player with development. Bltizing, covering the slot, deep zone

I think we may have under 15 1st rd grades this yr, so picking at 20 we will have a bunch of similar 2nd rd graded players. Still would take a premium position first, but would be fine with a good safety after that

Call me crazy but I would take Downs at 12 and Warren at 21 if he fell.

Sign a vet CB in FA (Dean, Woolen, Watson).

This scheme is very complicated on CBs, I think there would be a big learning curve for a rookie CB (even though I do think Delane is smart enough to come in day 1 and contribute)

I'm anxious to see how Downs tests at the combine. Probably not Emmanwori athleticism but hopefully above average.

Blankenship would be an obvious FA possibility that could help the players adapt to the defense. Spotrac lists his AAV market value at $7.2M Which is close to Donovan Wilson's cost. A defnsive analyst was on the fan and he said Eberflus' system is pretty simple to learn and Parker's is somewhere between Eberflus' and Flores'.
Why do people keep saying this about Blankenship when we dont even know what system or defense Parker is going to run

I think it could come down to who is the best player available as nickel CB vs nickel safety that can cover.

Stephen recently said Revel and Bland are 2 of the building blocks of the defense so they might feel more confident about CB than a lot of fans do.
stephen is confident so I am depressed

I was just listening to Voch/Broaddus and they were discussing that the team maybe looking more at safety then they are at the cornerback position. Let's keep in mind, our new DB Coach comes from the Arizona Cardinals where they used a ton of three safety looks. Budda Baker played that rover nickel safety role, kind of like how Philly uses Cooper DeJean. We already heard this offseason, how important this position will be in our new scheme which Parker is going to install.

Downs, Thieneman, McNeil-Warren all fit this type of defender they seek. They also need to upgrade the back-end safeties, they would think Wilson and perhaps Hooker could be replaced. Think the deep safeties would be more of a fa priority, perhaps a player who has either play in this scheme or plays in a similar one.
Based on studying the Eagles 2025 scheme, the 2-deep Safeties can be average athletes as long as they have the ability the understand the scheme.

DeJean played both CB and Safety in college.
- He plays outside CB when the Eagles are not in Nickel.
- Compare that to the 3rd Safety when Quinn was the Cowboys DC...Kearse.
- Kearse would never have played CB. Maybe LB but not CB.

Having said that, I think Bland (if healthy) would be perfect in the DeJean role.
- Very aggressive vs the run.
- Probably a better Nickel cover CB than outside cover CB.
- Smart.

Obviously, in the draft, Downs seems like the perfect fit in that role.
- My concern with Downs is durability.
- His play style is more physical than many Linebackers.

Parker coordinated the coverage / DB scheme for the Eagles.
- It is highly likely that he uses the same backfield scheme that he used then.
- Parker's variations from Fangio are more likely to be in the front 4, maybe front 7.

Looking at Downs I think the durability concern is overblown. No one can really tell who will be durable and who will be not.

Stephen really don't know what he's talking about. Revel, who tore his ACL is a 3rd rounder and Bland was selected in the 5th and is coming off a serious foot injury. If you think they are worthy of being the building blocks is foolish.

This is such a deep draft for safeties. If you know what to look for you can't go wrong. If we somehow trade back and get Aveion Terrell, Thieneman and AJ Haulcey we are going to be set.

Bland certainly can play that role, it will depend upon whom they decide to bring in or not.

Many here hate the idea of adding Blankenship, but he knows the scheme and is a high iq player which makes up for his lack of physical traits
