3 Years ago Roy and Julius were our cornerstone players...what happened and why?

remember those days? Julius use to get the ball 30 times a game, and in 2004 he averaged 102 yards a game! In 2007 averaged 37 yards a game. Roy was laying the wood with reckless abandon. He was getting picks (most memorably the pick 6 to put the eagles away in Philly), getting tackles behind the LOS, and striking fear into any player who dared enter the secondary. I am not trying to beat a dead horse and complain about why they suck now. What i wanna know is, why do you guys think our 2 best players from 3 years ago changed? They both had opportunities this year to not be Parcells "robots," yet neither excelled. Why?

The reality is that too many high round draft picks were wasted. Those players should have conitnued the cornerstone process, yet look what it got us. BP is praised for his 7th round gems...........yet look what those gems did in the game yesterday. Crayton, Jones and Reeves................pretty much cost us the game.

my only thought on Julius is that maybe he got too top heavy. It seems ever since he got all buff it took away from his quickness and shiftyness

It's a great question. Other than Romo, two of the most popular jerseys I see are Julius and Roy. And not without good reason -- they were two of our best players not too long ago.

I don't know what happened or how to explain it, especially with Roy.

Brian Mitchell told you guys 4 years ago that Roy was going to be good because he's too fat. Roy has lost his will to stay in tip top shape, if he ever was. And JJ is what he is, a RB that runs like a robot unless he has a 5 foot whole to run through.

I may get slammed for this, but I believe JJ's problem is our offensive line. Last few years, the OL wasnt very good. This year they have been decent but they just dont run block well in my opinion. There is a reason JJ seems to only get to the line of scrimage. Have you noticed, almost every run this year past the line of scrimage was called back by a holding penalty? (Julius runs)
I realize that Marion is able to make things happen, but rarely is it in the called hole. almost all of his great runs are because he does that awesome sideways thing.

I believe (i could be wrong here jmo) we have a good offensive line that is capable of being great. The problem is our OL coaching and the scheme. Get a good coach in there and the problem is solved in my opinion.

Unfortunately we lose JJ this year and I predict he's going to have a good career. It's the right thing to do, but I think we are going to regret it.

Roy has slowly degraded to the point where I dont think he'll ever be good for this team again. Roy just doesnt want to hit people any longer. Blame it on the nfl's softness, or Roy's lack of desire. It doesnt matter, I think he's done as a dominate player. He never could cover.

I have this theory about some guys in sports.

Some players seem to stand out on bad teams, but when it comes to stepping up in big games or playing with talent that surrounds them, they seem to fade away?

I'm not sure what it is, it's like they can be leaders when others are below average or average around them, but they can't perform when others are equal or especially even more talented around them. It may be psychological.

I thought Ellis was like that for awhile, but he had a pretty decent year. He was a stud early, then as the team got better he seemed to get quieter on the field and louder off it?

Not sure, but it's a valid question. They seemed to be our 2 building blocks a few years ago, and now they are liabilities in many people's eyes.

Ellis did seem awful quiet this game, but I guess so did just about everyone. Except maybe Romo, whitten, and Barber.

I said it before and i will say it again,JJ can play.his oline's have been bad to average pretty much since he has been there.his confidence is low cause he hasnt had much success with the poor oline play..barber has run better only because he can run over players, but the oline is still a bad run blocking unit..I believe JJ will be very good once he leaves dallas..now your boy roy looks slower and he lacks the intensity he once had in the game, and he lacks the speed to play in any teams secondary.simply put roy cant run worth a damn!!

Bingo!

And, why did Woodson's retirement have such a big impact on Roy Williams?

Its no secret in the NFL that Roy Williams is one of the dumbest players in the league.

Stupid doesn't get better with time.
