Everybody loves to rank the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL. It seems like people never get tired of arguing about it. However, there are 22 players on the field at any given time and no one player can swing the momentum like a kick returner can. So how come nobody ranks the top ten kick returners in the league?
Who knows? But we set out to fix that.
A lot of factors go into kick returns, so judging who’s the best isn’t an exact science. There’s blocking, coverage, and just plain old good and bad luck to consider. My rankings are based on how well each returner is doing this season, with extra consideration for what they’ve done in the past and in clutch situations. I also gave brownie points to guys who put in work on punt returns.
Here they are, counting down from number ten.
10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Solomon Patton
What’s that you say? You’ve never heard of this guy before? Understandable. But you owe it to yourself to tune in at least once to watch this kid fly. Patton is a rookie out of Florida but he’s already making a name for himself with the Bucs.
Through five games he’s averaging 22.9 yards per kick return and has also returned nine punts...
