From 1920 to 1932 the Champion was simply awarded the title.

From 1933 to 1965 it was a 1 game tournament unless there were tied records during the Regular Season.

1966 there was a 2 game tournament to reach the Super Bowl.

1967 to present teams need to win at least 3 games to win the Super Bowl.

Super Bowls in Bold Black.
NFL Championships in Bold Blue.
AFL Championships in Bold Red.

We still have a one game edge on Pitt for most playoff wins. Dallas and Pittsburgh are the only two teams to have won 30 or more playoff games.

Very nice job, Hostile.

I'm betting that the Houston Texans get on the board with their first playoff appearance next year.

It only took me less than an hour to do both posts. I already had the info compiled. Just had to add the graphics and type.

Hos, am I missing something ?

Seems that the total post season records are not posted for the Cowboys.

They were in the playoffs recently, but that part is missing. The whole xxx to present.

First line under the picture. I only separated the post season if they ever played under a different banner like the AFL or a different team or city name. We've always just been the Dallas Cowboys. So there is no era to separate out.

We need to blow the dust off the winmeter and get that number incrementing... when we last won in the post season, Pitt had 20 playoff wins...

2008...XLIII...Pittsburgh Steelers, 12-4

Hos, you have the data on that other profootball league from the 1940's? The one the Browns were in?

The Browns were champs for like 4 or 5 years straight including 1948 and 1949.
I always use them when arguing with Eagle fans how thier franchise has not only never won a SB, but in actual fact has never won any undisputed NFL title.

See the Browns were Champs of their league in 1948 and 1949. Then won the NFL Championship when they joined the NFL in 1950.
Considering how great those Browns teams were, I say they have a more legit claim as football Champs in 48 and 49, than the eagles.

In 1960 we had the AFL Champ Houston Oilers. They went on to repeat in 1961. They have as much a claim to the crown as the eagles.

The AAFC? No, I don't. I know the Browns were Champions every year of their existence from 1946 though 1949, but I've never found a site with any other real info.

Edit:
I do know there were 8 teams and 3 of them merged into the NFL. Cleveland, Baltimore, and San Francisco.

I also know it was the AAFC that broke the color barrier for Blacks in Professional football and the NFL right on their heels.
