The 4 losses have come with hurt Romo playing in 2 games, no Romo against Arizona and a ridiculously short week against the Eagles. The defense is really starting to come along nicely. One of my criticisms of the defense was their lack of quality tackling, but whatever they did coming into the Bears game worked as their tackling has noticeably improved.
I'm probably most nervous about Brandon Carr. He's better than Jacques Reeves, but he reminds me a lot of him in the sense sometimes on defense you're only as good as your worst player and Reeves really hurt us in the '07 playoff game against the G-Men. Hopefully we get Free back as well. He's just more consistent and mobile in the run game.
I said this before the season....this was the perfect litmus test to decide how good of a coach Garrett was. He had been given 4 years to get the players he wanted. He had a talented offense and a suspect defense. A good coach would be able to manage the game by running the ball and going with less is more with Romo and make for a high scoring, run based offense that can keep the defense off the field. If we went 10-6, I thought it would tell us we had a very good coach. If we went 6-10, I thought it would tell us we had a bad coach (I thought we were going 6-10).
In all of this, the good news is that this is an organization that is progressing regardless of what we do in the playoffs. The next big steps are to add the right pieces for next season and then seamlessly transition into Romo's replacement when he's done.
