49ers signed free agent OL Tony Pashos.

Pashos was just released by the Jaguars on Saturday after refusing to take a pay cut. Now he's reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Niners for less than what the Jags offered. Regardless, it's a nice pickup for San Francisco, who just lost Marvel Smith last week.

We didn't have an opportunity nor was it realistic.

Pashos was going to go somewhere he could play and have a chance to start.

I realize it is frustrating to see talent out there and see it go elsewhere, but right now, we need to have faith in our management.

It feels the roster is set in stone and isn't interested in disturbing the natural balance. It is much easier to wait until there is an injury before we start worrying about pesky things like offensive line depth.

Yes, Pashos wasn't interest in coming here. But it is also clear we aren't interested in upgrading. If we were, we would be making the effort somehow.

Signing Pashos isn't a good long-term move. All it would do is eat up cap space this year and further ****** the growth of Doug Free.

Pashos was probably looking for a place he could start-- and it wasn't in Dallas.

He won't be eating up much more cap space for San Francisco than Cory Proctor will be for Dallas. His contract with SF is supposedly under 2 million.

No, Pashos is a right tackle. So basically the concern is about the development of Pat McQuistan?

We weren't interested because we apparently are content with the depth. There is no reason to invent reasons why we weren't interested, no just in Pashos, but anyone out there. We apparently like what we have. It is just that simple. And sad.

All I can say is Adams and Colombo better stay healthy or it is 2005 all over again.

Exactly, Pahos wanted to go somewhere where he could start and get a nice contract next season.

Buried behind Columbo wasn't going to do it for him.

Hey, you don't have to convince me that Proctor is a waste, BUT at the moment he serves a function, until Preston knows the line-calls and Brewster comes off the PUP list.

Plus it's all a mute point because Pathos wanted a chance to start and that wasn't going to happen in Dallas. He would kill his marketability in 2010 by having to sit out most of the game sin 2009.

what about this guy then alexander?

in other words alexander are the cowboys coaches and jerry jones denying the truth that is staring them in the face with some of their backups, and not going out to get some good players in waiver wire like the eagles, 49ers and patriots did?

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots signed veteran G Kendall Simmons today. Terms of the contract were not announced by the team.

Simmons, 6-3, 315 pounds, spent the last seven seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers after joining Pittsburgh as a first-round draft pick (30th overall) out of Auburn in 2002. Simmons has started 81 regular-season games and seven postseason games during his seven NFL seasons.

Simmons started the first five games at right guard for Pittsburgh last season before suffering an Achilles injury that forced him to miss the remainder of the year. He was released by Pittsburgh in February.

Simmons earned a starting position at right guard as a rookie in 2002. After starting 14 games in 2002 and all 16 games in 2003, he missed the entire 2004 season with a knee injury. He rebounded in 2005 to start all 16 games and four postseason games, including a start in Super Bowl XL during Pittsburgh’s victory over Seattle. In that game, he was a part of an offensive line that helped the Steelers rush for 181 yards.

He was never going to come here anyway, he wanted a chance to start somewhere, that wasn't happening here and he wasn't taken the vet minimum which is all he would of got coming here.

We need a backup tackle more than a guard, Holland and Preston can play guard, Proctor isn't lasting much longer here, probably cut by the end of the week

Holland is probably better.

Too injury prone. Also, he's diabetic, which makes any injury concern more of a factor because he won't heal as quickly.

It is just as likely we weren't interested. That is the general point.

This isn't even about Pashos, the cost to sign him or anything else. It is about our apparent lack of concern with the depth on the offensive line, specifically at tackle.

The mindset now is the same as it has been since April. We honestly feel that McQuistin is a quality backup and we don't feel it is possible to upgrade. Besides, McQuistin is a "core" special teamer.

It takes two to tango. You need to have a player want to come here-- as a reserve. Pathos wasn't going to do it. Anyone who has been a starter and has hopes of being a starter this year isn't going to sign with the teams like the Cowboys or the Giants or any team that has a solid starting 5. It just isn't going to happen. Pathos is less than 30yo. He's been a starter and is looking for a long-term deal.

I realize it's in vogue on many message boards to rip the Cowboys for every move they don't make, but come'on. Be realistic.

And finally how do we know who the Cowboys have or have not had interest in? Hell, before the Holland trade last year, I don't remember a single post on any Cowboy board suggesting that the Cowboys were interested in the guy--not one.

that hits the nail on the head alexander, how can the coaching staff and jerry jones be so stubborn and hard headed on their thoughts that mcquistan and proctor are good linemen?

its like they dont want to wake up to reality and see what really is going on, because if something happens to columbo we are in serious trouble and if proctor has to play, i feel sorry for romo;

Well, what linemen are out there for us to sign? Please try to stay within the realms of reality:

1. The guy needs to be willing to come in as a backup.
2. Better than what we already have.
3. Willing to sign a contract worthy of a bench offensive lineman.
4. Not injury prone.
5. This isn't Madden, the guy we bring in won't instantly know our offense and be ready to play .

So drop a few names on us or quit grousing ... you don't know who the Cowboys have attempted to bring in, only what they were able to pull off (Preston).
