Just highlights how we've turned over this roster even while maintaining .500 football and competing for the playoffs.

As a fan it's kind of sucked because it felt as if we weren't progressing as a team...but we could have cratered for a decade like the Rams? Or been perpetually putrid like the 49ers until the overwhelming accumulation of talent made a difference.

Impressive job from the front office...for all their faults.

And you can see the core and only a few major holes remaining. You have the young key guys like Dez, Tyron, DeMarco, Frederick, Church, Carter, etc.

Assuming guys like TWill, Wilcox, McClain and Escobar stay on their current path of development you only have two positions that need to be dramatically upgraded next season IMO. One is DE and Spencer could conceivably fill some or all of that position next year and the other in ROT replacing Doug Free. For that position we have three candidates in Parnell, Weems and Donald Hawkins that could conceivably fill that position next season. I think the DE spot is the only obvious hole going into next season.

I think you are dramatically overrating the teams talent at DT, S and CB. Each of those positions need to be addressed in the offseason, in addition to the tremendous hole at DE. At some point, a legitimate QB of the future needs to be brought in as well.

At DT we have Crawford, Coleman, McClain, Bishop, Hayden and soon will have Brent and Okoye. IMO we will likely bring Melton back on a restructured contract.

You don't think we can have a solid 4/5 man rotation out of that group?

No, not really. Most of them are average players, at best. Crawford has a chance to be a bit more than that, but they are underwhelming as a group. Not a difference maker in the group. These guys were getting abused big time in the second half.

right....like every team is studs across the board and all worthy players are already established.

I agree with you in principle. I think we've got a few more holes than that, though. We're probably going to lose Murray and Harris, too. Though we get Lee back. We're thin on defense, don't have a very good 2nd Safety. Our DL needs probably two more playmakers added to its rotation (depending what we make of Lawrence). We need to address RT, as you say (though I think Free takes a reasonable deal to stay next year), and, probably most importantly, we need to groom a QB, which is going to take another high pick.

But given the roster constraints and the fact that the league is setup for teams to not be able to stay young and deep, we're in good position, finally, after a couple really thin years relative to the cap.

I used to worry about what to do with Doug Free. But then I remembered we have Parnell, Weems and Donald Hawkins in the pipeline.

We're good.

It'd be nice to get a young stud 3-tech, but its not a glaring need. We do need to do something at DE. I think we need to upgrade Carr. Wilcox seems to be playing better right now, so I'd tap the breaks on having to replace him. On the offense I think we can stay pat and still be good next year without any major upgrades.

Agree, I said we only have a couple of "major holes" and should have expanded on that to save all of us from reading the trolls. We had 6 to 8 major holes going into this season and the OP's original post about the development has filled some. Others have been filled by simple good luck like Rolando McClain. Some have been patched over by Marinelli's scheme.

My point is that DE and ROT are the only obvious glaring holes for next season at this point. Backup spots like FS, OG, LB, CB, etc are always going to issues and always restocked on a yearly basis. The trend from the end of last season to today is definitely on the way up however, regardless of what some posters here want to think.

Most contending teams have a difference maker that an opposing offensive coordinator has to game plan against.

The Cowboys do not.

I think we're in much better shape than the last few years ..... next week IMO will let us know just how close we really are ..... fourth youngest team against the youngest AND defending champion team ..... with that said ..... I think we can win next week ..... this years team seems to have that "magic" ..... what ever that is .....
