Going into this FA and draft season I see 5 needs on the defense and 3 on the offense. Some would be starters but others could be role players like another RB to pair with Mcfadden and another WR to put in the rotation and a backup QB etc.

LB - Need a starting caliber LB
DT - Prefer starting caliber but one that is part of a rotation would suffice
SS - Starting SS is a dire need in my opinion.
CB - Starting caliber CB is top priority
DE - Rotational DE but even a good rotational DE is of starting caliber

Offense

RB - A back to pair with Mcfadden and hopefully end up the no 1 guy next year.
WR - We have options here but this position could stand an upgrade and would be a target for me.
QB - backup QB to groom.

So how do we get 8 contributors in 1 draft? I am not forgetting about FA but this is a draft exercise and I am filling one position through FA and that is 2nd string QB and I suspect that is what Dallas will be doing as well. RG III, Manziel or other option.

Luckily a no 4 pick is a very valuable commodity and the key to finding multiple contributors in a draft.

Using the CBS rankings and trade value calculator I am going to attempt to fill all 7 of these needs.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings

http://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/games/draft-pick-value.php

This is the draft order.

http://www.prosportstransactions.com/football/DraftTrades/Years/2016.htm

My first trade is with the Raiders. Pick 4 (1800 points) for picks 14, 44, and 75 (1775 points).

That leaves us with picks 14, 34, 44, 67, 75, and 98. I am only using the first 4 rounds and not including the comp.

My 2nd trade is with the cardinals. Pick 14 (1100 points) for picks 29, 61 and 93.(1060 points)

We give up a little value on both trades but now have 8 picks in the top 100.

picks 29, 34, 44, 61, 67, 75, 93 and 98.

Now to fill 8 holes with 8 top 100 picks.

Pick 29 Noah Spence DE - Probably the best pass rusher in the draft.

Pick 34 Sheldon Rankins DT - this is the guy we have been waiting for. Makes the entire d line better. Frees up the LB's to make plays and helps the db's now that we have a solid D-line.

Pick 44 William Jackson III CB - Day one starter. Has all of the ingredients to be a solid NFL CB and can play both press and off man freeing up Marinelli to do some different looks.

Pick 61 Kenneth Dixon RB - immediate contributor and eventual every down back.

Pick 67 Karl Joseph SS - I have waited so long for a legit SS and here he is. Mean and nasty with good coverage skills and brings the wood verses the run. Great fit next to Byron Jones turning our secondary into one to be feared.

Pick 75 - Braxton Miller WR - Dynamic playmaker that opens the field for everyone else on offense. Would be so much fun to watch.

Pick 93 - Scooby Wright III - Probably the best LB in college prior to his injury. Well most of the other LB's are coming off of injury too. It;s just a part of being a LB in modern football. Bigger than most of the other LB's that are highly ranked and able to play MLB leaving Lee at Will.

Pick 98 Kevin Hogan QB - he is currently listed at 213 on cbs rankings but I am taking over other QB's that are rated ahead of him because I think he has a better chance of someday being a starting QB in the NFL. Smart, talented player with just enough escapability to be dangerous. Would learn a lot playing behind Romo.

There is my attempt to turn the draft into a windfall of talent leaving the team with no holes and a bright future.

Based on most drafts, you'll end up with about three starters at best from that group, and the percentages go down the further from the top you draft, so trading down to 29 is a risky move.

Your believe is all of those moves will pay off, but there's a reason those players are available at 29, 34, etc., instead of being higher-rated. I'm not for quantity over quality because that's how you end up with no starters when you started off with the No. 4 pick in the draft.

Yeah because the only starters come in the first 5 picks.

Chances are your top two picks...will be gone as both are starting to rise. I will also say that Braxton Miller (with his Senior bowl stock and if he runs good in the combine) will not be available at 75.

Entirely possible. It is based on the current CBS rankings. Some will rise and some will fall but if you have 8 picks in the top 100 you can do some real damage. IMO

Trading back and getting a good pass rusher is a very real possibility with the need and Hardy being able to be replaced cheap. Would take spence at 29 in this scenario. I do hate passing on Jack who would be there for pick 4. If spence could be there until pick 34, I wouldn't do the trade. If Spence gone, I prefer Johnson at DT over Rankins.

In your mock I would do this

29 Spence
34 Rankin with Johnson
44 Jackson III
61 Dixon for another CB (Russell)
67 Joseph
75 Jones LB
93 Williams RB/Perkins ( not grabbing RB until the 4th)
98 Hogan

Out of this draft we will come out with DE, DT, LB, RB for sure. The way we draft WR of late hope they go FA. If we grab Hogan be more thank okay with that.

Good stuff! Thanks

61 if you want to add another CB Artie Burns
67 joseph SS
75 Jones LB
93 Perkins/Williams RB
98 Bralon Addison WR
4th Comp Hogan

Good, Bad, Indifferent? You decide.

Like it, with a few minor tweaks:

Pick 29 Noah Spence DE - Probably the best pass rusher in the draft. Agreed.

Pick 34 Sheldon Rankins DT - this is the guy we have been waiting for. Makes the entire d line better. Frees up the LB's to make plays and helps the db's now that we have a solid D-line. Love this pick, Rankins is a beast. Although I would be tempted to take Derrick Henry here.

Pick 44 William Jackson III CB - Day one starter. Has all of the ingredients to be a solid NFL CB and can play both press and off man freeing up Marinelli to do some different looks. Like Jackson too, but would be tempted to take SS/LB Sua Cravens here. There will corners of similar talent to Jackson later in the draft. Hard to pass up on proven playmakers.

Pick 61 Kenneth Dixon RB - immediate contributor and eventual every down back. 3rd or 4th best RB in draft class. Not the best athlete but runs like every rush is his last. Freak athletes like CB Artie Burns, RB Devonte Booker and OG/C Nick Martin are also options here.

Pick 67 Karl Joseph SS - I have waited so long for a legit SS and here he is. Mean and nasty with good coverage skills and brings the wood verses the run. Great fit next to Byron Jones turning our secondary into one to be feared. Like Joseph but our safeties need to be bigger with guys like Cam Newton in the league. CB Deiondre Hall is also an option - guy not only big (6'2 195) but a playmaker, had 6 picks and 3 FF. Or take chance on injured blue chipper CB Keivarae Russell. All 3 should be available with pick 75.

Pick 75 - Braxton Miller WR - Dynamic playmaker that opens the field for everyone else on offense. Would be so much fun to watch. Would take Miller with the 67th pick and not look back.

Give me 6'2 225 4.45 Miles Killebrew here. Like Joseph, he's a vicious hitter, just bigger and faster. Other options are OT Joe Haeg, RB CJ Prosise and CB Maurice Canady.

Would rather take a QB earlier, or later (one of the comp 6th's or UDFA). Best case scenario is signing one in FA. DT Javon Hargrave is who I take here. Small school but 13.5 sacks in 2015 and 16 sacks in 2014. Kid is raw, but a monster in the middle. Over 300 lbs. but is the quick twitch athlete that Marinelli drools over.

Comp 4th: OLB/DE Dadi Nicolas - competes with Noah Spence as the most twitchy pass rusher in draft with athleticism, nastiness and feet to play SAM. 9 sacks and 18.5 TFL in 2014.

6th Rounders: QB Vernon Adams, KR/WR/RB Byron Marshall, NT OJ Mau, FB Chris Swain

UDFA: LB Terrance Smith, DT David Onyemata, S Deon Bush, S Mike Caputo, S Tevin Carter, S Doug Middleton, ATH Vad Lee, ATH Keenan Reynolds, WR/TE Devon Cajuste, WR Jordan Williams, FB Soma Vainuku

too unrealistic. I wouldn't really use the current draft ratings on CBS. I like to use multiple sites and get a general area of where the players are projected. drafts unrealistic with multiple picks and i wouldnt use the a 4th on Hogan. I like hogan as a 6th round option. I like the Karl Joseph & William Jackson picks.

After thinking it over, believe I would keep WJ3 at 44 and just take Sua Cravens at 67.

Pick 29 Noah Spence DE

Pick 34 Sheldon Rankins DT

Pick 44 William Jackson III CB

Pick 61 Kenneth Dixon RB

Pick 67 Sua Cravens SS/OLB

Pick 75 - Braxton Miller WR

Pick 93 - Miles Killebrew SS/OLB

Pick 98 - Javon Hargrave DT

Comp 4th: Dadi Nicolas OLB/DE

6th Rounders: QB Vernon Adams, KR/WR/RB Byron Marshall, NT OJ Mau, FB Chris Swain

UDFA: LB Terrance Smith, DT David Onyemata, S Deon Bush, S Mike Caputo, S Tevin Carter, S Doug Middleton, ATH Vad Lee, ATH Keenan Reynolds, WR/TE Devon Cajuste, WR Jordan Williams, FB Soma Vainuku[/quote]

Like the draft.....but no way half those players stay where they are ranked now. Rankins is a #1 now...so is Spence. Wouldn't shock me to see Miller go in the 1st as well. Someone like Cincy....who can afford to take a flyer on a hometown kid.

Oh great. We FINALLY have a top 5 pick and we trade down to 29 where we were last year? Then you expect the best pass rusher in the draft to be there??

No thank you. Stay put and draft a QB.

Yeah because the only starters come in the first 5 picks.

No, I didn't say that. I said if you look at the draft historically, you might draft 10 players and get 2 starters, or 7 and get 3. The likelihood of you hitting on 8 contributors with those 8 picks in the top 100 isn't very high because picks don't pan out for various reasons. Don't waste a premium pick by trading it away hoping that you're going to hit the jackpot. Too much chance involved in trading down hoping to get the players you want. At four, we have the opportunity to virtually take our top player in this draft.

Man, I would be ecstatic with yours or the OP's draft. Only thing I would change on both of your drafts is Antonio Morrison III at pick 93. Similar size as Killebrew and just as good of an athlete, while already knowing how to play the position. Particularly in your draft, if we get Cravens (there is a god), he is already a much better version of Killebrew.

Nice effort. One quibble. Wright III was not the best college LB prior to his injury. That was either Jack or Smith.

Cowboys do not like true FS for some reason, always playing SS alongside one another, on base downs at least. Not just the last few years with Church and Wilcox but even going back to Roy and Woody. At least Cravens and Killebrew are much better athletes, and can play LB too.1

And I like Killebrew a little better than Morrison due to position flexibility and size. This kid looks like he's still got room to get bigger, and he runs a 4.45.

Jones is our true FS.

I just don't like Killebrew at all. I think he is going to struggle. He reminds me a lot of Taylor Mays.

Not a fan of Jones at safety. He is much more of a playmaker when playing tight man to man. He always looks lost playing in space.
