1. Tony Romo

At this time last year, we were wondering just how healthy Tony Romo was. This year, I want to see a much healthier Romo, one that we saw near the end of the year. From all accounts, Romo looks sharp and healthy. Romo likely won’t play more than a series or two, but I’d like to see him look accurate and to see if he trust his back more this year than the previous year.

Who on the online will be dressing? If the majority of the starters miss the game nursing minor injuries, I'd rather romo not play Sunday.

Doubt Romo plays. Pretty sure TSmith, Leary, Martin, and Free aren't playing. Also Dez, Beasley, Hanna, and Escobar aren't playing. Oh ya, Randle won't play either.

These injuries spark a legitimate concern: if you enter the game with this many offensive starters out, why would you let quarterback Tony Romo enter the game at all?

It’s a discussion that will take place among Cowboys coaches and officials before the team faces the 49ers.

“There’s no doubt,’’ executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “You’re not going to put Tony in there with the wrong guys.

“It definitely impacts you. It’s already started impacting.’’

Did anyone else chuckle at the McFadden right up?

Can he adjust to the zone blocking scheme of Dallas from the man blocking scheme he "thrived in" at Oakland?

McFadden, Collins, Gregory, Escobar, and Wilson for me.

Escobar seems to have turned a corner and could actually be a legitimate weapon for us. McFadden is self explanatory. Collins I am hoping to see growth from last week and Gregory is just exciting to watch.

Wilson is one of the most intriguing players on the team, he could be huge for us.

I hope so. We all love Witten, but it's starting to be that time where he's going to need to share time with another TE. If Escobar is looking as good in camp as all the reporters are saying, it's time to make his role a little larger.

Yep. Had to go back and re-read it, thinking I had misread it the first time. If what he did in Oakland was "thriving", what will they call what he can hopefully do behind this OL???

Earlier this week, he was VERY dominate in the redzone. Looked like a walking mismatch and could be a great redzone threat for us.

My sentiments exactly. With Free, martin, Leary, and Smith out, I would rather sit Romo.

My top-five players to watch:

  1. Joel Ross, CB - His name has been mentioned quite a bit lately.
  2. A.J. Jenkins, WR - Making more plays lately according to DMN updates.
  3. Jack Crawford, DT - How he performs will determine what the Cowboys do with some of the rookies and second year players.
  4. Lucky Whitehead, WR/Kick Returner - He could seal his fate on Sunday.
  5. Geoff Swaim, TE - He can make all TEs not named Witten expendable and tradable if he plays well.

Why do we need to watch Tony Romo? And why is he first on the list?
We KNOW what he can do.

If we need to watch anyone it's the running backs, particularly McFadden. We need to see him run behind this line. If he totes the rock for a 20 yard run behind the Great Wall of Dallas, pull him and be done with him for the day. We don't need to risk an injury to him. We just need to know if he's going to be able to exploit holes the offensive line opens for him.

After that, I want to see the pass rush. I want to see Gregory get to the quarterback and see a bit more of Hardy and D. Lawrence.

This season is going to come down to ...

1. A fierce pass rush and
2. Keeping Romo upright, which means developing a running game that keeps him from taking hits, and that's why the running backs are essential both in terms of chewing up clock and blocking for him.

We hit on those two, and we're Super Bowl-bound.

For me it's Vaughn, a down on the depth chart WR (maybe Porter, Harwell or Street), Weems, Collins, Bishop, Mo. There are a few other guys, but I think some could be put in a position to be a snap away from more playing time. Good to see what we have to break the glass in case of emergency.

I'm not sure if Goodley is playing but I would love to see him play WR and ST as well as take some shots at KR/PR. Dwayne Harris mold kind of guy who according to news had "made strides before the injury". Worth noting that he survived cuts without playing the 1st preseason game and injured. Could also mean he is one preseason game away from saying sionara.
