Mathematically, it’s absurd to call a September contest, or October for that matter, a must-win affair. But realistically? There are several reasons why getting a win is imperative for the Cowboys at this now-crucial juncture of the season. Staring across an empty stadium at them will be Russell Wilson and the Seatte Seahawks (2-0). The clubs last met at Century Link field in October 2018 with Russell Wilson and company getting a 24-13 victory where the offense couldn’t get much traction. That was pre-Amari Cooper and the Dallas offense is in a much different place right now. They also got payback later in the year, in the playoffs, on their own home turf. All of that comes into play in these five reasons why Sunday has to end in victory formation.
Losing on Sunday would have a chance of eroding the foundation that is attempting to be built. The team, with all the talk of simplified defensive schemes and allowing their players to do what they do best (listen to episodes of Catch This Fade! as we wonder aloud why they were putting their players in a position to fail) has to come with results or the whole thing gets washed to the wayside.
The Cowboys went 2-6 against teams with a winning record in 2019, and though the regime is different, the cast of characters remains largely the same. Already in 2020, they lost to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. Now two weeks is a small sample size, and so is three, but the team should desperately look to avoid falling into a similar pattern of being unable to defeat the better teams in the league.
