5 Sacks just cause of the opponent or legitimate?

Two of the worst offensive lines in football both reside in New York. You do the math.

I still would be calling the Bengals about Hendrickson's availability as that would fix the problem overnight and turn it into a possible strength. Also, keep in mind, as we see with Ez, there is a steep learning curve at the position, better to get a veteran then wait for a prospect's development when our QB isn't getting any younger. No, this defense isn't 1 player away, but this would be a huge piece that would be filled. Last thing I will say, he won't cost a 1st rd pick as he is a fa after the season, day 2 pick probably gets it done
This^^^^^^ especially if it can be done w/o using a 1st rounder. I would offer the Bengals a conditional 2027 3rd and Diggs.

Make a team's offense one-dimensional by getting a sizable lead early and defense in the NFL gets easy.

We see it with our offense all the time when they start off slow.

If a team can stay balanced on offense, they have a chance as NFL parity tightens things up. If the offense makes mistakes with poor execution/turnovers/ penalties, especially early, things get very tough. Same way with the D. Give up some easy scores early and get behind, the offense can be forced to get one-dimensional.

It is why they harp on sticking with the game plan if you are within a couple scores after a big momentum play by the opponent.

If you start on the premise that this is the year, then maybe. But many of us think we're playing on a dangerous 'false expectation' and that this Defense just has too many question marks. A lot of this optimism and urgency surrounds Dak's health/performance, the problem is that is that if anythings happens to him its over.......therefore build the team properly.

Giving up a 2nd Rd Pick (+$10m salary) and the CAP Space to extend him (when we need to find the CAP for Pickens, Javonte and Aubrey + Safeties/LB's) is a lot of resource to give up on a gamble.

The other factor (for us that think we need to be looking at 2026) is that one, if not the biggest strengths in next years Draft (outside of QB's) is the DL and Pass/rush. Not just the number, but the variety, not signing Hendrickson keeps our options open and will allow a more BPA approach.

The issue with drafting an edge is a steep, developmental curve on the next level. With Dak already aging, can ill afford to wait. He would help this team this yr and beyond and we still would have the cap funds for resigning Pickens.

If any starting qb goes down, so does their season.

I would see if they have interest in Steele in the package
As mentioned before, I would also call the 1-4 Ravens to see if Roquan Smith is available. Eberflus drafted him and yes, he was traded but I don't think he blames Eberflus as much as the Bears FO. He and Hendrickson would greatly improve this D at a modest cost.

This x 100.......success of DLine players' first one or two years is hard to predict. THIS is why I favor adding a vet like Hendrickson. You KNOW you are getting a guy who can and will hit the ground running. Let's be honest........our window is 2/3 years before we could major change at the QB position.

So who are you drafting? 2/3 years..... that's not what @Cowboyny appears to be saying.

My wording is off a bit.......I would still draft D-line if the right player were there. It's just for some reason or another, it takes them 2/3 years to find their footing. We could move on from Dak's contract in 2027 or def 2028.......

1. The Jets are terrible and Fields holds the ball too long

2. It helps to have a lead and force the opponent to throw

3. Dallas has the pass rushers so the should get pressure

4. Kneeland moves like he is in quicksand

5. The DEs need to be better in general

6. Houston needs more snaps

-Jets had one of the most healthy offensive lines in the entire league
-All and all have played well up to the Cowboy game
-Eberflus did use some Quinn/Zimmer games up front. Saw many twists/stunts and even a double A gap blitzes.
-They didn't run much press coverage and were worse when they did.
-This was the first time that they really played ahead of the scoreboard
-Justin Fields tends to hold onto the football longer then most QB's.

No, I am not convinced they all of sudden found a pass rush. Need to see it against a better opponent/QB, but this team really needed a confidence boost. What I do know is, James Houston is legitimate as he has done this every week of the season. Let's hope Fowler follows up his best performance and Ez eventually breaks out. Also, nice to see both our interior lineman join the sack party!

This is good thoughts we don't want to get false hope of this pass rush only to see them lifeless against a team that's better. It's a wait and see game, we shall see

If we draft the Mazi's of the world it takes 2/3/infinity years. Its the players you draft, not the position. From what ive seen the who D/Line is a strength in the draft.
Our problem (or my problem with Hendrickson is that:
1) I dont think we are a Pass-Rush away from getting a ring.
2) Ive more faith in Dak's health
3) Think we need to see what (f anything we've got in this Defense.....none of oue DE has played over 700 snaps and as was mentioned in the OP, have we found a Pass-Rush, Just luck or are what we've got getting acclimatized).
4) Similar ourlook on our OLB's: Thomas, Overshown, Liufau......totally agree with you on Roquan , we need that can play a disciplined MLB (though costly).....and there's not much in the draft and apparently no Plug and Play's
5) CAP, and not a CAP Deniers say....we've got CAP. The problem isnt our CAP it's that over the next 4 seasons other teams can outspend us as they have more space (eg us- $83m, Egs - $214 and Comms $441)....im not saying we cant pool the money, but it's unlikely we'd re-sign Pickens, Javonte and Hendrickson.
Just saying, this just isnt the year, UNLESS THERE's A MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT IN THE DEFENSE in the next 4 weeks, and if that's the case, we may have already solved this years Pass-Rush.

66 is Joe Tippman, he was a 2nd (43rd) round pick and part of the all rookie team in 2023!
I don't know enough about the player to really judge overall, but he certainly got abused on Sunday. Some were true wins by the Cowboys, but that sack by Williams was simply a terrible job by Tippmann. No double move, just a straight club move and Tippman couldn't even get his hands on Williams to slow him down. Looks like Tippmann got too deep in his set and simply left an open lane for speedy player to run right through.

The Jets have given up 16 sacks in 5 games. They had 11 in 4 games before playing Dallas. So they averaged just under 3 sacks per game before Dallas got 5. So it was a good job by Dallas against them. Of course having a lead helps.

Carolina has given up on 9 sacks in 5 games so far. That doesn't mean they can't get sacked 5 times by the Cowboys. But the Panthers have a higher rated OL than the Jets. I expect Carolina will want to try some deep passes to see if the Cowboys pass defense has gotten any better, so maybe they will have some sack opportunities.

3rd sack he’s been credited with this season. Didn’t give up one all of 2024!
Looked to me like he underestimated both the speed and power of the rush!
