interesting article and video quoting tom brady discussing 5 things he's learned from the pats organization.
l. toughness. just don't bring guys to the team that aren't tough.
2. next to head coach, o-line coach is the most important on the team.
3. versatile linebackers. pats preach run, cover, hit.
4. value of in line tight ends.'
5. invest in special teams. he says having a guy who can hit an opponent inside the 10 yard line (punts or kick returns) is huge.
any and all apply to the cowboys who haven't been as good as following these guidelines.

I don't think we really have any guidelines.

Maybe it's just me, but in all of it, I see the recurring theme - coaching matters.

As he mentions, it begins with the head coach, and we all know how most of us feel about that guy. But it all starts there and that influences everything else.

Then going to offensive line coach. They rely on Dante Scarnecchia to coach up whatever they have, while we invest big money and top draft picks in ours, while shuffling the coaches in and out. At one point, we had one of the league's best in Bill Callahan, but issues with the head coach forced that to end.

I think we finally have the linebackers in place, and finally some healthy ones.

We've placed a priority on the TE position too, maybe too much, as the investments have never truly paid off. Witten's retirement and the timing screwed us badly.
And I think we have identified and invested well in special teams, at least at the specialist positions. But once again, it doesn't look like the coaching has been quite as valued.

Which brings me back to my original though, coaching matters.

Our special teams has been bad for years. When was the last time we had a punt/,kickoff returned for a TD? Ryan Switzer?
Also, Dan Bailey would still have been a THOUSAND times better than Maher.

10.) Kiss your old sugar daddy owner on the lips (and more) after each championship win if you want to play into your 40's.

Dan Bailey was a thousand times better than Maher? That’s a dumb comment. Mayer wasn’t great, but he was much better than Bailey.

Bailey missed 7 FG's last year, same number as Maher, and in a lot fewer attempts.
bailey never recovered from his groin injury. i'm surprised zimmer didn't cut him after the game when he missed 3 field goals. glory is fleeting in the nfl. .

Also, Dan Bailey would still have been a THOUSAND times better than Maher.

Maher was better than Bailey (80% to 75%) and he was 6 for 7 on kicks over 50 yards. The miss was the 52 yard try in the Commanders game that hit the crossbar.

Bailey only tried two kicks outside 50 yards and made one, for 52 yards.

I'd actually thought everyone knew this about Bailey.

Sounds like Jimmy's approach to building the Cowboys back in the the day.

One of the most consistent issues with this past season was field position after punts. If you recall Dallas seemed to have the ball around the ten yard line every time they started out.

That makes a huge difference.
