I've decided it's our magic number this season. We get Sean Lee back at #50. We're going to get 50 sacks on the season. And those two factors will elevate our game and land us at Super Bowl 50. And while we're there maybe we'll score 50 pts. I was going to add that we'll score 50 TDs this season, but we scored 56 last year and I don't want us to take a step back. Besides, the offense is good enough to get there, it's been the D that hasn't quite been up to snuff. I think that changes this season. I really can't wait until Sunday night, I know the Giants games are typically close and high scoring, but I think our D is going to show up and shut down. We'll still score our 30+ pts, but I think we're going to stifle the Giants offense and win a lopsided game.
20 years ago, on September 4 1995, we opened the season with a Monday night game against the Giants and won 35 - 0. Emmitt ran for 163 yards - I think his first carry went for 65 and a TD. It's been a long drought, it's time and Sunday night is a chance to make a statement and crush a division opponent.
Last year this team played tough and won a lot of games by being mentally stronger than the opposition, but started slowly and allowed lesser opponents (and some not so lesser) to start with a lead which we had to overcome. This year we need to start strong and take over games start to finish.
