This always seemed irrelevant to me. These guys are rich enough that they can have a house in a no income tax state, and thus claim residence there, and play wherever they want.

Doesn't work that way. I have property in both Florida and Texas, both no income tax states.
If I work in a state with taxes, they deduct state, and some places even city taxes. Then you have to file a return in those states.
It doesn't matter which state I claim residency in. Does help with Per Diem though.

So if I go out of state for a work project, I pay that state's income tax while I am there? I don't think so...if I purchase something there, sure, but my salary is paid based on where my home is...is the NFL unique this way?
