67 Brock Hoffman has been dominating as backup Center

@Bluefin Spotrac says Hoffman is an UFA in 2026. Hoffman signed a 1-year contract in 2025.
I don't use Spotrac, my info came from OTC.

I believe OTC is right.

Brock Hoffman accrued seasons of service towards free agency in 2024, 2025 and will do so again this this year.

If correct, that means he'll be a RFA.

Hoff was on the roster for 3 games in 2022 but that isn't enough to qualify for an accrued season going by memory (the NFL does tweak these things constantly).

OTC is probably right. I love Spotrac, but they consistently have the RFA guys listed as UFAs until the new league year starts. It’s kinda annoying.

Maybe Hoffman is better than Beebe. Then what do you do? If the team is doing well (better?) with Hoffman, then I stay with the hot hand. Yes, players do lose their jobs to injuries. Bret Favre got his chance when the QB in front of him got hurt. Favre said he learned from that to do your best to never come out of a game.

Two good players at one position. Not a bad problem to have.
We are fortunate to have a really good but that back up isn't as strong as Beebe

Maybe not as strong, but definitely more nimble. I would take a Center who is plenty of strong enough but definitely more nimble. You can do more with him.

Strength can be improved.

Nimbleness/quickness/agility...? Not as much.

Nate Thomas would have won the job.
Nate Thomas is getting the pet cat treatment for sure, just because he’s coming off the bench.

His tape doesn’t really look that good.

I’m happy he’s filling in as well as he is, but arguing that he makes any of the starters dispensible, is a huge stretch

From making the correct calls (blocking scheme) for the Oline at the line of scrimmage before each play, down to shotgun snaps, to run blocking and pass protection, backup Center, #67 Brock Hoffman, has done an admirable job the past 2 weeks substituting for starter Cooper Beebe while recovering from injury.

Vs the Jets

Vs the Packers

Let's hope Brock Hoffman keeps it up tomorrow vs the Panthers while Beebe starts recovering from rehab and keeps getting closer to returning to his starting Center role. It's great to have a very good starting and backup Center for this explosive Cowboys offense.

I liked Hoffman and glad to see him playing well. I like Booker too, but does make me wonder a bit if we had to invest at guard with guys like Hoffman and Bass already on the roster.

What tape are you watching to make this kind of judgement?

Wow. Hoffman is NOT as good as Beebe. He’s a solid backup, but without double teams, he can be pushed back. Beebe is much more powerful.

Thomas is NOT better than Guyton. Both have growing to do, but Guyton is more athletic and has played better this year. Dak and the scheme/coaching has kept you guys from hating Thomas. He has been beaten immediately several times. The ball is just coming out before the sacks.

Our best OL is Guyton-Smith-Beebe-Booker-Steele. In time, Thomas may be able to take over for Steele.

Unless Hoffman is happy being a backup and just loves the community too much, he will leave in free agency for the chance to start somewhere. But he is a restricted free agent in 2026. TJ Bass will also be a restricted free agent in 2026. I’ll bet Dallas tenders them offers and gets draft picks if they are signed away. Would they give them each a second round tender?

The tape against the Jets is pretty clear on Nate Thomas right now. He flashes his ceiling, but has too many bad losses right now to say he played well.

This isn’t all Nate Thomas focused but here is a 2 min video that has some of the bad version of Nate Thomas.

You and me have been pounding the Hoffman table for years. I’m still baffled by spending a top pick on yet another OG when the Hoff-Man was in this roster. Dude is nasty.
That's one of the reasons I wanted to draft Tyler Warren TE from Penn St

I liked Jimmy Johnson's approach: If you get injured and the backup plays better than you, then you become the backup.

That's how it should be. There should be no starting spots given because of salary or how high someone was drafted. That creates a losing culture and it's one of the big reasons why we haven't won anything in 30 years.

:lmao: :lmao:  That’s not tape, that’s friggen YouTube cherry picking a couple bad plays and ignoring all the good plays. That’s just crappy man for you to do that and expect ANYONE to believe you except those of the same ilk.

If they wouldn't have drafted the rookie Nate Thomas would have won the job. He was originally at RG last year and moved to RT once Booker was drafted.
