Cowboy fans: Yooooooooooooooooooooo, this player has been HOT against bad teams, i bet he wont get replaced.

Yoooooooo,

Do some self video research on YouTube on Hoffman. Lots of videos from last year where he dominated against top DTs like the Giants' Dexter Lawrence, etc. It would save you the time from sounding ignorant and misinformed around here....brother.

Just trying to help. Goes for everyone.

He was penciled in to be the starting RG until they drafted Booker.
Yes, exactly. Before the draft, I figured it was a battle between Hoffman and Bass for Martin's RG spot. I was good with that. One of the positions I least worried about. Was more worried about both Tackle spots, WR2/3, RB(all) and even TE really as far as the offensive side of the ball back then..
I figured with that high of a first rounder, they would have drafted a skill position with the 1st Round pick this year. But its Jerry's world, we are all just in it - lol

On the flip side, is this Hoffman's last year with the Cowboys? If Hoffman is a free agent, he is going to get a big contract from someone if he continues to play this well.

If so, the Cowboys would likely get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick for him.
I don't want a 3rd or 4th round pick for Hoffman, I want a reliable backup for C and Hoffman is it!

You and me have been pounding the Hoffman table for years. I’m still baffled by spending a top pick on yet another OG when the Hoff-Man was in this roster. Dude is nasty.
Exactly, brother.

I was saying pre-draft the Cowboys should have traded down their #12 draft pick down into the 20s while picking up an extra 2nd and/or 3rd round pick(s). Used that 20s traded down pick on either big DT Derrick Harmon or MLB Jihaad Campbell. Both have been playing very well for their NFL teams this year so far. Our Defense definitely would have been improved with either one at DT or MLB. Instead, we drafted another Guard which we didn't need. I love Tyler Booker, but we had bigger needs on defense which still is hurting us badly this season.

I swear, this front office gets some very bad advice many a times.

:lmao: :lmao:  That’s not tape, that’s friggen YouTube cherry picking a couple bad plays and ignoring all the good plays. That’s just crappy man for you to do that and expect ANYONE to believe you except those of the same ilk.
I'm not cherry picking there, its just a video that was already put together and I can't make a new video with every response I have on here. If you really want to review all of his snaps here are the negative ones to look for.

Q1
  • 6:34 - Beat on a quick spin move by edge
  • 5:46 - Doesn't get around on his man and lets him go from strong side all the way over to the weak side of the field to make the tackle
Q2
  • 15:00 - Completely whiffs
  • 14:23 - Good recovery by Thomas, but loses his footing. Had Dak not gotten that ball out quick thats a potential sack
  • 14:20 - Pass set, Dak get the ball out quick so its a non factor, but Thomas lets his man through in roughly 2.5 seconds. Quick pressure given up
  • 12:27 - Missed assignment - Blocks no one, lets the edge through untouched
  • 1:31 - Gives up quick pressure again on a spin move
  • :19 - Given the clock its a non issue but we have a penalty on Thomas here (after the play)
Q3
  • 14:54 - Run play - beat quick on inside swim move
  • 13:37 - Good job picking up the stunt, but completely whiffs on his block
  • 10:10 - Gives up instant pressure again as the edge goes through nearly untouched, Dak saves the sack
  • 10:52 - Run play his side. Thomas does enough to make enough of a block here, but the footwork is an issue as he gets turned around. If he were up against a better edge player there the result wouldnt be good.
  • 9:32 - Guessing on this one, but this looks like a Thomas missed assignment. No reason for him to block anywhere but straight ahead on a QB sneak.
  • 8:03 - Another missed assignment, lets the edge get pressure untouched. 6DL vs 6 blockers + chip from Ferg. No way Thomas was told to slide right on this based on alignment.
  • :57 - Toss play weak side, Thomas blocks second level. No impact on the outcome of the play, but Thomas is unable to block his man. Not sure if this is a bit of a loaf or if Thomas just isn't athletic enough to make the play
From memory I don't recall many issues from Thomas in Q4 snaps so I won't take the time to rewatch and note them, but there are the timestamps if you want to review the game and discuss it more instead of just laughing and saying im wrong by providing even less evidence than I did.

Personally I really like Thomas, and there was a ton of good to take away from this game, however the total whiffs and mental errors are unacceptable. Ideally those should get cleaned up with more reps, and if so I would be tempted to start him over Guyton if Guyton can't elevate his game quick. You have to really watch the tape with rose colored glasses to say the Jets film is a good game for Thomas though. It's decent film for a young guy making his first start. It has enough positives for us to remain optimistic on the kid. It's still well below what you want from any OL in your starting 5 though.

Well, yeah but at what price is the question. If Hoffman is an UFA, then you are not signing a backup to over $10M/year. If Hoffman is a RFA, then it will cost around $5M for a second round tender. That is a lot of money for a backup at a position other than QB.

Hofman has been better then I thought he could be but CERTAINLY not dominating.

What tape are you watching to make this kind of judgement?
Can’t really engage with you Rockport. No answer would satisfy you.

You could start with last weeks game if you’re genuinely interested in anything other than your preconceived notions that all our backups are starting caliber players.

Well, that's a real weenie-shrinker. I thought Thomas played well.

Appreciate you making the effort but it’s probably wasted.

You’re more patient than I am.

Good summary though.

lol, good one.

He’s a serviceable backup and he didn’t get Dak killed. Considering the situation I give him a thumbs up.

For whatever reason, the narrative on him started a day or two before the game and it was obvious that barring a disaster, he’d end up a hero. Everyone loves an underdog.

Maybe Hoffman is better than Beebe. Then what do you do? If the team is doing well (better?) with Hoffman, then I stay with the hot hand. Yes, players do lose their jobs to injuries. Bret Favre got his chance when the QB in front of him got hurt. Favre said he learned from that to do your best to never come out of a game.

Two good players at one position. Not a bad problem to have.
Always stay with the hot hand. Unless he's needed at guard.

Id rather have Hoffman starting at rg and then have drafted golden. That would have been better over the next 3+ years
