It was over when they lost to the Cardinals. Lose to KC and you can put a fork in it.
This ^Win or lose, I have a positive feeling about the direction Dallas is heading. It’s still early but I’m more hopeful now than the last few last years.
Offense, yes, defense, too lateThere does not really seem like a dominant team this season.
We need to win 5 out of 6. If we are going to lose, I would prefer it to be to an AFC team.It was over when they lost to the Cardinals. Lose to KC and you can put a fork in it.
That makes the Vikings a trap game.I'm honestly not concerned about winning out. I'm focused on the game with the Lions. If the Cowboys win, I will then be super focused on the game against the Chargers. I'm not overly concerned about the game against the Vikings (but I didn't think the 'Boys would lose to Arizona either.) I have a lot of football respect for John Harbaugh's coaching ability. After that, it is two division games, and those can always be a toss-up.
But their is no doubt the Lions in their home is the most daunting challenge left for this team. If they can come out of the game tonight with a win, against maybe my 2nd or 3rd most favorite team in the NFL, then I'll start thinking they may have a chance this year.
As for building for next season, you don't play for next season. Too much changes every year in the NFL to play for next year. Injuries happen. Who among us thought that signing Diggs to a big contract was a bad decision? But he hasn't been consistently healthy since that big contract was signed. Will Overshown remain health going forward, or will he once again be injured? If this year a flash in the pan for Javonte Williams? Will the Cowboys be able to retain Pickens next year. Again, you don't play for next year. You play for this year.
I'm not going to engage my emotions in hoping for the best until after the Cowboys play the Lions tonight. If they win, then I'll allow a sliver of hope to enter my heart for this 2025 Cowboys team.
I think all games are traps at this point...they cant take anyone for grantedThat makes the Vikings a trap game.
Then why would you skip to the Chargers?I think all games are traps at this point...they cant take anyone for granted
What I as a fan am concerned about, and what the Cowboys players need to be concerned about are not the same thing. That makes the Vikings a trap game.
They've already proven that they are for real with recent victories against two of the NFL's top teams. Detroit is going to be a dog fight that I expect the Boys to show up and show their dominance in. Last year's Detroit game is going to be the Cowboy's reason for beating the crap out of them this year!At the end of next Thursday night, December 4th, we will find out if the revamped Cowboys are for real, or if this is just another year of disappointment.
I didnt say to skip to the chargersThen why would you skip to the Chargers?
It was me who skipped to the Chargers. But it doesn't matter because I'm just a fan, not a member of the organization. Frankly, I am more concerned about Away division games against the Commanders and Giants than I am the Vikings. But any loss probably ends the Cowboys' playoff chances, so if they lay an egg vs. the Vikings, then I don't have any more games to be concerned about at all, and can start my NFL offseason early. Win-Win for me.I didnt say to skip to the chargers
yup...they have to win and keep on winning....only way that they could take an L is if the eagles go 2-3 down the stretch which is possible (loss to chargers, bills and wash)It was me who skipped to the Chargers. 3 turnovers and horrendous kickoff coverage was the difference. Neither team really had answer on defense.Well, now we know. The mid-season turnaround has been impressive, but the Lions were just a better team. The Cowboys need a few more pieces, but 2026 looks promising if they can retain a couple of key players (Clark and Pickens) and draft a couple more star defenders. The good news is the Cowboys have two first round picks in 2026 and hopefully they can address the DE and LB positions with those picks.
The Lions were always going to be a tough win. The Lions have been one of the most enjoyable teams to watch, and you have to admire the talent of the team they've put together. A few injuries and a step back on their Oline have undermined their chances this year, but they are still a more dangerous team than the Cowboys.
The Cowboys still have an outside chance if they can get to 10-6-1, but blowing the overtime lead over Green Bay, and the terrible loss at home to Arizona may have put the playoffs out of reach. The losses to Denver, Carolina and Chicago don't seem so horrible in retrospect, as all of those teams are either leading their division or have an opportunity to win their division.
Denver and Chicago lead their divisions and are the 1 and 2 seeds in their respective conferences. The Eagles are also a division leader. Carolina is one game out of first place in their division with two games remaining against the division leading Buccaneers. That is 4 losses to what could be 4 divisional leaders. Add in the Lions loss, and the Lions are clearly better than the Cowboys, and that leaves only the Arizona loss as the big embarrassment of the year. But if that embarrassment led to the mid-season trade which caused the defensive turnaround, it will be for the best in the end, although it effectively ended the Cowboys chances in 2025. The defense's inability to stop the Packers from tying the game in overtime really sucks.
Ultimately, for the Cowboys to be a championship level team, they have to beat division winners, not lose to them. They just aren't there yet. Again.
