MODESTO, Calif. -- He's being called the youngest car thief in Modesto's history.
Police say an 8-year-old boy took the keys to his teacher's minivan out of her purse, walked out of class and drove home safely after school Monday.
When the third-grader pulled up to the home of his parents in the Dodge Caravan, a neighbor saw him get out and called police.
The boy -- whose identity was not released -- told officers he just wanted to drive around for a while.
In order to operate the Dodge Caravan, he raised the driver's seat, lowered the steering wheel, adjusted the rearview mirror and turned off the radio.
No charges have been filed, but the 8-year-old has been suspended from school. Officers lectured the boy after interviewing him.
