This is becoming one of my favorite sites about football - this guy is dedicated to reviewing film on very specific premises. This one shows all the INTs thrown by Brady last year and examines what led to them.

I post it here as a comparative to our own QB, who also throws INTs. I would like to present evidence that Tony Romo is not the only QB in the NFL that throws bone-headed picks.

it won't matter because those who hated romo:

1) still do
2) don't care about stats. he hasn't won THE BIG ONE (neither has anyone else on the team but blame romo)
3) cause he's romo and OUR qb, who cares about the rest of the league...
4) brady has skins on the wall, he can overcome his own stupidity.
5) insert another clever, used, tried reason here to counter another argument about romo and interceptions

it's highly likely romos detractors are fully aware of other qb's throwing interceptions.

it's even more likely they don't care.

I think we can't try and use Romo the same way the Patriots use Brady. And I think many of the things Romo has tried to copy from Brady have been unwise (I blame the QB coach for that). Romo is better off being used a bit more like Roethlisberger...rely on the running game so he doesn't start throwing too much a get him to use his beautiful play fakes and ability to roll out of the pocket and throw and throw more mid-to-deep pass patterns.

We also can't really have him hang back in the pocket for as long as possible. He needs to move around more like Brees. Brady is a tall guy with a lot more arm strength than given credit for. He also has an overhand throwing motion, so he can throw a lot of those short drag routes as he can throw it over the linemen more easily and hit that short route in stride. And if he needs to make a throw from a further distance, he can with his arm. Romo is better when he can step up into the pocket and make more intermediate length routes and use the play action to throw it deep.

This past season was the best I've seen Romo perform in poor weather conditions and I think sticking to the running game helped a lot with that. And I think when we were playing in good weather conditions, Romo went back more to his old way of playing by stepping up into the pocket. That combined with the running game allowed us to use more long pass patterns instead of dink and dunk, so we started playing more to Romo's strengths instead of playing to his weaknesses.

Can't disagree with anything here. Not trying to compare how the two play the game or their strengths and weaknesses. Just that throwing bad picks and having bad games is not, nor has it ever been, a trait specific to Romo.

I don't think anybody has ever argued that.

I think that there has been complaints of Romo's performance in crucial games and critical situations. As I've said, the stats show his performance drops in pass attempts 35+ and he's quite strong from pass attempts 25-35. To me, I think part of the issue is that teams get a read of where he's going with the ball over time. Collinsworth pointed this out with the Skins defense. They were going to throw blitzes at Romo and figure out where he was going with the ball each time and then eventually they would bait Romo and have a defender in the way of where they thought he was going to go. Probably no surprise that Haslett's defense gave Romo some problems.

And most of those critical throws are usually happening on your last throws. If he's throwing it 42 times in a game, then the defense gets a better idea of where he's going with the ball than if it is on his 32nd throw of the game.

Perhaps Roethlisberger had the same problem, but we wouldn't really know since the Steelers have traditionally stuck with the run even when the offense isn't moving the ball that well.

The other part that I saw a major improvement is Romo's performance in crappy weather or subpar conditions. For example:

Jacksonville (in London when it was raining): 20-27, 246 yards, 3 TD's, 0 INT's
@ Chicago: 21-26, 205 yards, 3 TD's, 0 INT's
@ Philly: 22-31, 265 yards, 3 TD's, 0 INT's
@ Washington: 22-34, 299 yards, 2 TD's, 1 INT
@ Green Bay: 15-19, 191 yards, 2 TD's, 0 INT

Each of these games we stuck with the run and limited Romo's throws and he only threw 1 pick to 13 TD's. His completion rate was high and his QB Rating was outstanding.

Less is more with Romo. And that's not a bad thing. It's too bad that it took the organizuation until he was 34 years old to realize that.
